I think almost any routine that pares down your drinking because you consciously want to cut back is good. I was surprised at the long term problems years of heavy drinking can cause, aside from the usual liver issues. I've now noticed that if I drink too much on successive days I get slight pains in my heart. Not good. It goes away if I lay off the booze for a day though. I was thinking of adopting a routine where I just won't drink on successive days. Or only every three days. Or maybe just quit altogether.

I like your thinking. And, I was looking for a worthwhile NY's resolution so it's a win/win.

I'm in for the intermittent days in the new year. If you decide to do the same I wish you will power and lots to do without the booze. I trust you'll do the same for me so thanks in advance!

Have a great 2019 and all the best to you, @VegasMichael.

You too my Canadian brethren. I remember as a kid growing up on the Canadian border where we would take Canadian coins but not Canadian dollars.

When you have to justify your drinking, it should be a sign. When you think you may have a problem, you probably do. I wont go into too much detail, but I've been on the wrong side of things in the past. There are ways to get through it and "cutting back" or substituting aren't the ways to get it done. Not here to judge. If anyone ever wants to ask any questions or needs to talk, hit me up. Seriously.

I used to play a lot but when I moved to Vegas I stopped. Courses here are expensive, crowded and mostly flat with few water hazards. It's cheaper in the summer but who wants to play in 110 degree sun. I did buy a new set of clubs a couple years ago and have been hitting from the range just to keep my swing alive.

I’ve played a bunch in Florida and South Carolina. Upper 90’s and humid is tough even when we go out early. I can’t imagine 110. Must Be brutal.

When I move back to the Northeast in 2021 I'm going back onto the courses come summer time. NY and PA have gorgeous fairways that time of year.

I crack my neck every 30-45 mins. It feels tight and I grab my head and chin and crack it twice each side then I push my head down for 3 more.

It’s the loudest most disgusting sound ever and I know how bad it is but it gives instant relief and feels necessary.

It’s impossible to understand an addict until you become one.

I was a heavy drinker for 20yrs and for 10 of those straight I bought a 24 everyday. Now I don’t drink a 6 pack in a month.
Never had a cup of coffee in my life.
I definitely Have is strange addiction now but it’s weird one so I’ll stay silent on this one.

That's got my imagination running overtime.

So, to summarize, you cop to a couple dozen a day beer habit. The two guys before you admit to humping GM trucks and making 'loudest and most disgusting sounds ever' respectively. But your current behavior is so far beyond these that you can't talk about it?

Not to make light of addiction but holy cow, man, enquiring minds want to know!

Seriously, good job on the booze cutback. You may well have saved your life. Congrats.

All the best.

Attempting to turn a new leaf not because of a New Year's resolution bullshit, but once I made a post in this thread it got me thinking.

I like to drink booze but I admit I am a little excessive when it comes to amount. I've decided to drop the booze on the following days, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Tuesday is taco Tuesday so no F'ing way and weekends are weekends. Hoping to loose a decent amount of weight and hopefully feel somewhat better as the weeks go by. This is going to be interesting but I figure if I can quit tobacco I can handle this.
Thanks OP for creating this thread hopefully I come out on top.

Become allergic to glutton and it’ll change that in a heartbeat. I’ve been told glutton free beer is garbage; I don’t drink so I don’t know.

Just a thought to you guys with a soda/caffeine addiction. I bought a soda stream thing and it actually works well. I have red bull and Dr. Pepper flavoring and it does taste pretty close.

A beer isn’t the first I want when I wake up, But when I get to the bottom layer, that means I’m out.

I don’t drink much in the winter but come the 85-100+ degree days, an ice cold beer is what I’m looking forward to after work. Followed by another one.

Someone’s idea of “drinks too much” holds no weight if you sit in a chair all day.

My father was an alcoholic. not a mean one but he def. had a drinking problem. he up and quit one day and never took another drink. He maintained till the day he died that he could smell a bottle being opened a couple blocks away and that if he were to walk into a bar and take a drink he would not come out sober. it take a person with a very strong constitution to just quit and be successful but it can be done.
