It has speed potential at least... if I can hit 12.3 and going for 11.9 in Spring with my Tune Only X3 and B58 motor, I am sure the 1,000 less pound Supra can hit very low 11's with a tune.

I'll just quote myself from the other thread.
I think that really drives home the point for me.

The only thing Toyota about the Supra is the badge.
Toyota is so lazy that they are keeping thr 5x120 BMW bolt pattern and are using wheel bolts.

The entire car will be filled with Torx, safety-star and other BS German Fastener.

Car is being built by Magna Styer in Graz, Austria.

It is a damn BMW.

On and for modding? The B58 has water cooled exhaust manifold (emissions) that is built into thr head and a water cooled intake manifold. Oh that will be fun.

This engine is more crampes then a 300ZX TT or a 3000GT VR4. So much for the simplity of an I6.

Saw it at the autoshow. its a BMW. but... that little engine will make 700wheel without having to touch anything inside, so its going to be a mean machine.

All the hate for this car has me tempted to buy one just because. I’ve owned several turbo imports in the past starting back in 1998. DSM, Evo, STI etc..

Should be a fun car to mod. There are already stock frame turbo upgrades pushing the B58 to 550rwhp.

Links to 550whp B58's. I'm seeing 400whp with E85.

Google the Pure Stage 2 Turbo. Intake, down pipe, intercooler and a modified stock turbo with E85 made 548rwhp if I remember correctly. 400whp numbers are on the stock turbo. The Pure turbos are modified stockers with bigger wheels.

If they could figure out the fueling they’d make even more.

Stock turbo/s won’t support 700 wheel.

It’s gonna be a nice tuner car for sure, but that cramped engine bay sucks.

536whp.

Not bad, but damn that's a $2'500 turbo upgrade, still need everything else. We'll see. Tuners will be desperate for attention and to sell crap, so I'm sure people will have solutions. Just look at the R35.

Is it weird that I would rather have a built and turbo'd BRZ?

I personally like this car. Times have changed, Japanese companies are not following the american sports car philosophy. They are not caught up in the horsepower games, they don't care about having the most power. This new supra to me looks good, has a proven engine and a good trans. It's not designed to be a quarter mile dragster.. it's designed to be a great Grand Tourer. You can bet it will be refined, have a great powerband and be comfortable for a long day of driving in traffic or a day through the twisties on your favorite mountain pass.

There is no need for this car to have tons of power since it was built to have good balance. I think this car will sell very well, and there will be an aftermarket. I was into the Japanese real wheel drive 90's sports cars for a long time. The previous supra with the 2JZ was not all that everyone cracked it up to be. It was heavy, could not handle for shit, and even with big power struggled to get down the 1/4 mile. It was just the Fast and Furious movie that put that car on the map, so many of the 2jz supras were simply dyno queens.

Yup, people are so busy ogling over the 1k+ hp supras that they forget how much money it takes to make that happen. Also they were rather underwhelming in stock form.

Seeing the released version and all the angles I think they mostly botched the front end from the hinge pillar forward. I hate how the fenders roll into the hood and Im not fond of the pointed nose like a beak. Will be interesting to see the first refresh when it comes in a few years.

All in all I bet it will be a blast to drive and will handle great. I wouldn't mind driving one.

Don't forget the styling that is considered classic now was really just a blatant rip off of the F40 when new.

First I've heard of that and I don't see the resemblence at all.

Now the Ferrari F550 looks like a Supra... But thr Supra was out 4 years before that as well.
