GT500 10-12 model buying advice for novice required

I'll be looking for a 10-12 GT500 in the next few months to bring over to the UK.

There aren't that many GT500 cars/owners over here in the UK so I've come to you guys for help.

In all probability I will be buy a car via US, I have a car guy who lives in FL, so I will use him to review cars and likely come over myself to close the deal if I can find th Wright car. Unfortunately I'm a classic mustang guy who restores them for a hobby, so my knowledge of cars might be good, but not on S197 GT500.

I intend to keep the car for a few years, unlikely to modify it, but buying a modified car, as long as it's not too mental, is fine. I'd love a 13/14 model as I prefer it's looks, but $40K+ is above my budget.

Here are my queries, any help/advice you guys can give me would be really appreciated;

Off the 10-12 years, which is the best year and why ?
What's the most important factors to look for when buying?
Should I be worried about modifications and what, if anything, should I avoid if modified ?
Typical price range for a 10-12 is ?$
Is a full history including regular services a must ?
Best to buy from a trader or private seller ?

Cheers
Chris

Welcome sir!

Quick notes version is that 11-12 have the aluminum engine blocks and Electric power steering. Also some have the optional SVT Performance pack with 19/20 inch wheels, 3.73 gearing, unique stripes and upgraded suspension. Glass roof was an option starting in 2011. 2012 Marked the first year of Recaro seats as an option. 2011 first year of modern anti-knock (knock sensors). Standard 550 hp 510 torque

2010 has iron block, hydraulic steering, 18" wheels etc.

Nothing against the 2010, but for your specific desires, Id look for an 11-12.

Having had both year models, get the 11-12. The 2010 year is the bastard child, so finding mods like exhaust is harder compared to 11-12. Only way I would consider a 2010 is if it was an incredibly good deal.

I would say an 11-12, but there are some deals to be had on the 2010's from time to time. In my opinion the changes are worth it enough to get an 11, but the 10's are great. In fact I had a 2010, it was a great car.. I sold it and got C6 corvette z06.. which I hated.. when I got back into the mustang game I got back into a 2011 GT500.

Skip the '10. It had the new body style, but the old '07-'09 engine. The '11/'12 cars are a far better buy as the aluminum block with PTWA cylinder liners debuted in '11. Better steering feel (EPAS debut), suspension and exhaust as well.
