And the interior, with new seats, door panels, door cups, register, shift boot, e-brake boot, carpet, various other interior pieces, etc....

Thanks all. Definitely a ridiculous project. I'll have more into this than just buying a clean one. But, I have plans. There's an On3 Turbo kit sitting in the mud room. Going to refresh the engine first. It's actually healthy, with good, even compression. But I can hear the timing chains clatter on start-up.

If you don't mind me asking....what does something that trashed even cost? Please tell me under $2k

$3,580 with shipping. I think the car alone was $2,800. Had money to burn and bought it based on pictures. Some of my fondest memories were driving my buddies 2004 Mustang GT in high school and drooling over his dad's 1998 Mustang Cobra (and I had my 2004 Cobra then). Just really love these cars, and I have always wanted a convertible. My girlfriend and I have a good time going to the local drive-in theater in it, and we're planning on going to Fredericksburg once I have the suspension back in.

Here's a picture from the auction listing.

Why did you replace the top? Seemed mint in that first pic? :)

Ya... the frame was all bent. I was very happy with MPS Auto Salvage, I bought a whole top with frame etc. for around $500, and it only took a few hours to swap them.

Holy crap that thing was abused, but I think my suspension was in worse condition when I pulled it than yours. My control arm bushings almost fell out the arms and the ball joints were literally just flopping around. Scary to think I drove on that for a year.

The picture I posted was after I did a ton of work. Mine was missing nuts, a lot of the bushings had collapsed such that their sleeves were off-center, etc. It was so bad, it drove me to drink.

How much Dynamat did you use on the interior and trunk?

Just enough to replace the factory stuff.

What kind of seats are those? They look good.

They are TMI seats. I got them because they match the interior perfectly. I had some Cypher seats initially, but the mismatch drove me insane.

The current project is a rebuild of the rear suspension.

Parts:
New differential with 3.73 gears assembled by TrueStreet Motorsports in McKinney, TX
MM front and rear diff bushings
Full Tilt Boogie rebuilt knuckles
MM UCA and LCA bushings
MM IRS bushings
MM tie-rod end-links
MM sway-bar bushings
MM toe-links

I cheaped out on the sub-frame itself, using a wire wheel, Duplicolor Rust fix, and some high-temp satin black spray paint. Just spray-bombed it using a piece of cardboard in my hand as masking.

And just because it's funny, here was one of the fuel injectors I pulled out of this thing.

That injector looks fine to me...

I would also do unholy things for that amount of garage space to work in.

Nice work on resurrecting the car. Looks great.

Nice save. My dad had a black 99 Cobra convertible like that. I put a passenger rear quarter on it.
