I ran the Borla (quite) on my 04 Cobra with UPR o/r X and it sounded badass. No drone. Just mean.
Im not sure if they are equivalent to the Borla touring or the S type

I have 3" JBA Super Snake exhasut all the way back from the stock manifolds (hi flow cats) and the tone is about as close to perfect as I've ever heard. It's a tad loud for my tastes, but I'm just getting old I think... I'll try to get a video up tomorrow if the weather's nice.

Borla XR-1® 2.5 Cat Back Exhaust System [140210] - $999.00 : Evolution Performance, Performance Parts & Accessories - Ford Mustang & Shelby Experts

I have this exhaust - it rocks!

I would like to enhance it bit maybe, something less subtle while keeping the quality of the Borla...

First off, my apologies for resurrecting such an old thread, however, I just recently came across this thread after searching the subforums. Anyway, I'm seeking advice from anyone who has any type of knowledge or personal experience with the Borla (140210) aka XR-1 multi-core Catback exhaust? My reason for concern is that several tech support reps from Borla have all recommended this multi-core cat-back system in which they claim will not produce any resonance drone on a 2007-09 Shelby GT500. They also claim that despite the fact that I own a 2006 Mustang GT with a Saleen Series VI supercharger, the Borla (140210) multi-core exhaust system will also be compatible with a 4.6L supercharged 3 valve application. At any rate, I've been running the Borla S-Type paired with the Mac ProChamber for nearly 2 years now and although I really like the overall sound from the outside of the car, however, I cannot deal with the annoying interior resonance drone between 1500-2500 RPM on the highway. Therefore I really have no other choice but to make a change. I also asked the folks over at Borla about making the switch from the S-Type to the Borla ATAK and they said the ATAK mufflers are tuned and designed specifically for only naturally aspirated 4.6L 3v Mustangs and would therefore not be recommended for my supercharged application, as the blower would change the sound of the exhaust note and also increase the volume as a direct result. Anyhow, I received the Borla multi-core system a few days ago, but I'm not quite certain as to whether or not I should install it or just return it back? As the last thing I need to be worried about is ending up with another exhaust system that I'm not going to be very happy with. Needless to say, my only other choice would be either the Roush Extreme Catback exhaust with axle-back delete pipes or possibly the Ford Performance FR500S axle-backs aka KR's. However, I would prefer either the Borla ATAK or the Borla (140210) multi-core cat-back exhaust, providing they would be compatible with my particular application that doesn't produce obnoxious resonance drone. In the meantime, I'd be really grateful if anyone might be able to provide any type of feedback and support. Thanks in advance.

I just watched the video you posted and there's no doubt as to how good the Borla S-type sounds from outside the vehicle. However, it's the interior resonance drone from inside the car that I cannot deal with. So my question is this. How bad is the drone from inside your car, and are you also running the stock catted mid-pipe or running an off-road exhaust setup?

2011 GT500 here. I ran for over 2 years nothing more than a 3" off road (no cat) Lethal Performance H pipe, stock 2.75" over that axle tubes and my factory 2011 GT500 mufflers. The factory GT500 over the axle pipes do NOT have resonators in them. I had no drone at any speed, engine speed or engine load. It was loud, but no obnoxiously loud. Excellent tone; I had my dad do multiple fly bys under cruise and hard accel. Sounded killer! Perfect, short of having full headers installed too. Almost like the GT500 2011-12 mufflers were designed with cat-less use in mind.

Check this video out. Engine start up at 17:25

Christian is an adviser at Power By The Hour in Florida. Thats his personal car with a 3v. It has hot rod cams in it but his exhaust set up sounds killer. Ill be honest, it probably doesnt have cats installed. Maybe give them a call and see what they might recommend. They definitely know their shit when it comes to Mustangs.

I have dynamatted my trunk and the rear seat section and can honestly say I have ZERO drone at all speeds. I do have an aftermarket JBA H-Pipe with high-flow CATS; the rest of the exhaust (w/ the S-Type's) is stock.

Im running stock cats and Borla S axleback on my 2012 GT500 and there is ZERO drone ever. Im not sure how it would be with an off-road mid pipe as Ive not been around one but with the factory cats its goooooooooooooood. Ive always heard that with headers or offroad pipes the stock mufflers come alive and sound great with no drone!

I've pretty much narrowed my choices between the Borla ATAK and Roush Extreme Catback, however, I'll be giving Christian a phone call over at Power By The Hour just as you recommended. Thanks ;)

Just keep in mind that Borla changed the design of their exhaust systems for the 2011-14 Coyote 5.0 4v motors. This is more than likely the reason for your S-Types having zero drone. However, the S-Types produced for the 2005-10 4.6L 3 valve motors were from the previous design and well known for producing interior resonance drone. Anyhow, just saying!

As I just mentioned to R@ceRedGT500's post above, Borla changed the design of their exhaust systems when the 2011-14 Coyote 5.0 4v came out which would explain the reason behind your Borla S-Type axle-back having zero drone. However, when it comes to the older 2005-10 4.6L 3v motors, the S-Type exhaust was from Borla's previous design and well known for producing horrible drone. I also know from personal experience that your absolutely 100% spot on about the drone issues as being worse when running an off-road mid-pipe vs the factory catted mid-pipe, as running an off-road mid-pipe will only increase the level of drone by amplifying the sound frequencies that produce resonance drone.
