Hi everyone, I am back in the mustang scene after about 20 years and just bought a 351 (now 383) powered mustang with a t-trim.

The car is tuned (660 rwhp at 13lbs) with a meth injection system, which honestly makes me nervous. Has been this way for about 2000 miles but I am trying to avoid failure areas one of which is a meth pump or system failing and causing a meltdown.

Seriously debating de-tuning the car to where meth is not needed. Which leads me to a few questions:

1) is it possible to tune the car without the meth to a fairly conservative tune, then just spray the meth to use as a cooking effect? That way in the event of failure, the tune is still safe?

2) right now the meth is actually spraying into the t-trim, exactly why I am not sure other than perhaps it ensures mixing (?). Is this common? I could not find anything from vortech as to whether this is even recommended.

Any other ideas how I could reduce the risk of single point failures but still maintain power levels? Previous car I had (mr2) had a J&S safeguard which was great... but apparently the 351 block has no provision for a knock sensor.

Thanks!!

I totally get your point. I've had numerous examples come across my bow of meth system failures leading to melted engines. You'd need a REALLY conservative tune and pully up on the T to get this setup to where it was just pump gas only safe, most likely. You could maintain power levels by tuning for e85, with just bigger injectors, if your fuel system is up for it. That gets you the safety and probably more power, too. It's going to drink fuel like an old ore freighter but, it'll get you what you need.

1) Yes. This is a good idea. I would monitor IAT's and only use it when necessary, such as back to back runs, summer, etc. Also, I would use a small nozzle, as this is being used for cooling and not adding more timing.

2) I think it could cause corrosion within the supercharger. I would move it close to the TB, where it has a straight shot at the throttle blade.

Have the car tuned without the Meth being factored in.

I have a meth nozzle pre blower and post blower, your tuner can tune in safety nets, so if the iat's get too high it will drop timing to a safe level, that's the way mine is set up.

Not to hijack your thread I just bought a 92 fox with afr 185 heads with a 306 dss pro bullet short block that has a intercooled Procharger. My question is how much timing should it have? Ive heard 5 degrees does that sound right
