Fantastic work! Looks much better with the hidden lines. The J2Fab and trunk tank may be my next mod.

@MalcolmV8 - Any idea if all of the mods are performed except replacing the HE (but still putting the bigger barbs on the stock or aftermarket one) how much the AIT2 will suffer? Reason I ask is because I don't want to do the bumper replacement mod. Thanks! (I do have an aftermarket Fluidyne HE installed though)

I couldn't tell you for sure. The trunk tank supplies the reservoir of cooling when making a pull and then the HE exchanger has to pull that heat out. It would make sense that a smaller HE would take longer for the trunk tank to recover and of course a partially recovered tank going into another pull would yield higher IAT2 temps. I have not tested this. Just my best guess to your question.

MalcomV8 would you modify my J2Fab flow mod like you did to yours? My car is at the shop and would prefer you doing it since you've already done it. looks so good. lmk if you would and for how much. thanks

I appreciate the interest but I just have way to many projects and work on my hands right now.

Hey Guys,

Thought I'd share how I changed up my J2Fab mod on the front of the engine. I'm sure you've all seen how the IC lines point up by the valve cover and you loop over. Just my personal preference, not a fan of that.

The stock J2Fab manifold on the left next to OEM stock.

I cut the barbs off and cut up some pieces of mandrel bent tubing I got that match the ID/OD

Using a square as a jig for reference I mocked up what I needed. It took quite a few trial fits on the motor with all the other parts attached around it to figure out proper placement and clearances.

This is what it looked like

Here's how it fits on the motor

It looked great but stood out so I painted it to blend in.

Hides in there quite nicely

See how you can barely even see it and the IC hoses will tuck down nicely and out of site.

Some idea for anyone looking for a different way to run the hoses or even tuck under the stock cross over.

very nice, im definitely wanting this done as soon as funds allow

I would really like to improve my factory intercooler setup, but damn. $600 for the intercooler upgrade, $480 for the pump, $400 for a rear tank. That's $1500 before you buy lines, fittings, clamps, etc.

You did it the correct way though, I would do it the same Malcolm. Be curious to see your findings.

I was actually going to post exactly how I did my set up with the J2Fab mod. One thing I wanted to avoid was the hoses when it came to the critical bend points, possible restrictions, etc.

I’ve got pics and videos of how I did everything and there was no real modifications to anything. It’s a very unique setup.

Malcolm! Awesome! You’re are seriously my inspiration when it comes to things and personal innovations when it comes to these Mustangs. I’m sorta like you, but behind the scenes more now AND just don’t post as often as I should.

For those also inquiry information about alternative hose plumbing. Here is what I came up with. I’ll share more detailed information soon. Where I got things, how plumbed it, etc. I don’t have the best pics yet... haven’t been at my car in a few days and I’m still investigating some items.

The zip ties are temporary lol. Those are just the few pics I have saved to me phone. But you pretty much get the idea. I used custom shaped silicon hoses.

@GM2Ford great looking set up. id love to see more pics of how everything is routed, especially how you went from under the car into the engine bay. i finished my trunk set up and im not feeling the routing of the hoses so any ideas from others would be awesome. also what size tank do you have?

I should post pics of how I ran my lines. Was not a fan of such big lines near the suspension and road. If one of those splits or breaks that's a very large volume of fluid under the rear tires. My lines are completely tucked away and hidden. If you look under the car you can't find them anywhere :)

7 Gallon. Right now it’s not mounted. However, when I do mount it, I will added 2 inch coupler nut fasteners under the mounting brackets to raise it up from squashing the inlet & outlet hoses.

P.S. - Don’t like the 90 degree hose shadow fool your eye, that’s at the EMP pump to tank. There is no kink in that hose and the I.D. of that 90 is 1 inch.

If I take off one your side skirts I betcha I’ll find the goodies haha! If I’m right, beer is on you haha!

That’s were mine are routed! Through the passenger side side skirt. At the back of the side skirt they follow the stock fuel line up and over the axle and pop into the trunk through the front of the spare tire well. At the front of the side skirt the route into the passenger front wheel well and are tucked up and over the wheel behind the plastic inner fender liner and exit through the hole where the stock air filter was mounted.

I agree with you on the lines being vulnerable if you drive the car around on the street. At the very least prior to being done I would loom it.

I suppose a person could run hard lines with hose barbs on either side down the length of the car to provide some added insurance (aluminum or stainless). Rubber hose on the ends.

That or use a braided stainless line with AN ends.

Those of you that ran your lines through the side skirts I’d like to see how you routed them out of the rear of the skirts and over the IRS. I know I cut/bent alittle sheet metal to get mine to what I thought was acceptable.

I am curious of your thoughts on the GT500 Afco HE, the J2mod, 1" hoses thoughout and the EMP pump on how well it would keep a 600rwhp whipple car cool in texas 98f heat in road racing applications where the car will be going for 30 minutes at a time full on racing?

I'm also considering adding a fuel cooler as well. I have a fuel safe fuel sell and the MM IRS cooler kit in the spare tub. I dont' think I can fit a trunk mount tank and honestly I don't think it would help with the 30 minutes of racing.

So this is why I'm asking for a non trunk tank setup using the EMP, 1" lines, J2 mod at the innercooler and afco GT500 HE with the aftermarket crash bar would this be the best setup to keep my temps stable for this long of racing?

The trunk mount definitely helps. Not only does it move some weight to the back of the car but the engine bay bakes the intercooler fluid with a tank mounted up front. Having a trunk mounted tank allows you to increase the overall thermal capacity, eliminates external heating of the tank and moves weight to the rear which our cars desperately need on the road course.
