hmm, a couple things come to mind

  • From age 7 to 15 I was one of the premier Kart racing drivers in the state of South Carolina. Competed in National circuit races when they came to town, and won many times/placed well. I have a room of trophy's. I was more of the local home grown Carolina boy champion type. Not a series traveler. I've had multiple offers since to wheel cars, trucks, karts, sprints, you name it. Just never done much more than drag race since then though. Had I moved to Charlotte, got into legends, or possibly graduated to cars, I could very well have been in Nascar/Road racing. A lot of people don't believe me though.
  • When I was 11 or so, my mom had a sweet 97 Crown Vic. I shut my right index finger in the door. It fractured/chipped the bone. Damn near took the finger off. Stitches etc. The doc said a piece of bone was missing, and they couldn't find it via X-rays. I wake up one day months later to a small 1/8" round bump on my left hand next to my index knuckle. Turns out the bone chip traveled up my arm, through my heart, and down to my left hand. Could've killed me.
  • My family namesakes side has been a hot mess. It's very storied and tied into politics in GA, the war of northern aggression, and the revolutionary war. After an entire century of marriage, kids, death, and more, Four generations depend on me to have kids. Otherwise our last name dies off for good. Good news is I have an ol' lady who wants de babies.

What if you have girls?

Yeah, I've had to come to grips with the fact that I'm the last of my family name. I had a daughter, and I have no interest in more kids. It was harder than I thought it would be to accept. But, then I realized how many family names have ended before mine, and how many will end after, and realized it's really nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah. Late 80s, early 90s.
What region? I'm asking because I played juniors in Illinois myself (graduated in 1995). If you're the same age and played USTA tournaments chances are we played each other at some point.

A name is just words. Your DNA lives on.

I graduated in 1991, and was out of the sport for 20 years after that lol. That would've been an interesting connection, though, had we played each other.

EDIT: Oh, region....sorry. I played in Champaign. We were in region 2 at the time, I believe.

I've lived in 13 different cities in 7 states in my 31.5 years of life. No broken bones. No major surgeries.

If you played USTA or men's opens we probably knew of each other. You would have been in a higher age bracket though. My doubles partner and I were the number 1 ranked USTA doubles team for 4 or 5 years straight years and I was always in the top 8 in singles. I was in northern Illinois. I quit in my 20's

I used to be a pretty formidable pool player. Won a lot of bar tournaments and used to play cash games a lot. Only liked 14.1 and 8-ball though. Once 9-ball became the rage that was all anyone wanted to play but I hated the game from the get-go and stopped playing.
