It is in the low 60's, just a gorgeous clear day sitting a red light in the left lane of a four lane that ends up becoming a two lane about 300 yards ahead with the right lane ending outside of town. I have the windows open just listening to the exhaust burbling. My 02, 5 speed, Mustang is plain Jane white stock appearing except for the 315 MT's out back and the 3" exhaust with rolling idle as it's only clues.
An early 80's ratty looking red Volvo wagon pulls up next to me but it is loud and clean running with a very unique sound (not a V8). 40's something guy looks over at me deadpan to see if I'm looking and looks ahead to the light. I know it's on. I'm sure he thinks stock 4.6 2V and he's taken these things before so he's pretty confident.
Light goes green I roll out easy and give him the jump just to see what he's got. I am truly impressed as it builds turbo boost quickly and scoots out 3-4 car lengths very quickly and pulling away. I roll through 1st gently gassing on it so as not to blow away the tires, yank 2nd, blower is whining loudly and it is squirreling a bit before the 4 link plants those MT's. pull 3rd and I'm door to door blowing past. He looks over with this "damn" look on his face put 4-5 car lengths on him as I run out of third, push it into 5th and let off to settle back to the 55 mph speed limit.
That Volvo is a 13.0 or high 12's car all day and a real sleeper against most. He just bought the stock appearing white 02 package. Ha, ha, ha.
He passed me slowly looking over shaking his head with a thumbs up, gassed it again and took off.
