not at my post...
Fighting for 2 years over a $1500 boat is asinine.

Just get another boat and don’t let your sister borrow any of your possessions.

She didn’t get it back? Is she 14? What is that?

Sounds like your sister owes you half a Jon Boat.

OP is in West Virginia, so making her work it off the hard way could be an option....

16' boat, motor and trailer used...might be worth $2.5K if in good condition.
I would simply write it off as a donation to the church and claim it on my taxes next time around as a donation to a charity. Go get yourself a new rig.

The registration numbers on the side of the boat should be the same. If you can find your father's old registration or ask the DMV for the number, you should be able to find out if the boat is currently registered. Being aluminum, it also could have been left outside and a scrapper saw opportunity. Seems people are quick to come and get something when they want to borrow it, but seldom put in any effort to return. They could have been been telling your sister to come and get the boat knowing full well she has no means to do it

That's far and away the best suggestion yet. Make her tattoo (permanent) a good sized Double "0" on her backside.

I'm sure we can get 150 SVTP members to pledge $10 each to make it happen. I'm in for a sawbuck.

Note: photo proof and in person verification by a mod will be required.

I have 10 bucks...who has paypal?

This is an option if the church cooperates. I would bump the value tho just because you will not get the full values anyway. Baringbthat I would take them to small claims

Do not let either the church or your sister off the hook!

You have lost a boat. I don't care if it was worth $50 or $5000.

They have to be accountable.
All the people saying let it go would be livid if it was them!

So many slimeballs associated with religion.

Sick em!

CNNs official report sites, two maga hat wearing trump supporters yelling dis maga country weilding AR15s were last seen absconding with the boat. CNN further blames the trump administration for this incident by continuing to divide the country.

Film at 11.

Seems we are missing some details. Why have you waited 2 years to consider doing anything besides ask them about it? We're you unaware they had the boat when they were borrowing it? If you knew they had it when it was being used, why didn't you ask them about it right away?

Did your sister physically take it without you knowing? Has your sister asked them about it?

I will say this story doesn't paint this church in a good light but there are some key details not really known to us.

I hope you get it back regardless.

Become an ardent church goer. Lots of really loud "AMENS" maybe speak in voices and let the spirit move your body. If nothing else, you will get a good cardio workout.

Your sister is 100% responsible regardless of what the church did with it, unless there was some type of written agreement.

The ethics is another question, but the blame should lie completely with your sister as she is the one lending something that does not belong to her.

Hopefully this experience is a somewhat inexpensive way for her to learn a very important lesson. I learned a similar lesson and paid a MUCH higher price.

Without pointing fingers at anyone, the main focus is the boat. There are shady people everywhere. I have had a lot of equipment grow legs and walk off at churches, sports bars, studios, and other various venues. I can give church stories from a pastor's perspective that will make you sick. People do strange things.

My main question is not to diminish the missing boat. I believe you should have your property returned to you. That is the right thing to do. However, I cannot help but to ask why you, or your sister, did not stay on top of things and pick up the boat as soon as the church was finished with it?

The pastor may or may not have a clue where the thing went. It is possible that it was placed in storage, or outside. It then sat for a long period of time with no one claiming it. I'm not justifying the missing boat, but there are endless ways that it could have gone missing. The fault lies with all parties involved if the boat was not outright stolen after the event. Trust me when I say that there is an endless list of odd things left at churches.

In your case, your sister, and the person that was utilizing your boat should have contacted you to tell you they were finished with it. Whoever carried the boat to the church should have immediately returned it to your home. That is the correct answer in this situation.

As for registration; a boat without a combustion engine does not necessarily need to be registered (this is true in GA and SC if I remember correctly).

I really did not know that she had lent it out to her church until I went to register it because my daughter wanted to go to a local state park and go fishing.

I also understand I should have stayed on top of it but I did not know that it had been taken from the back of my parents house where it was stored.

I agree with stuff disappearing at churches. We helped one time with an event at our church. 2 100' extension cords and a couple of big coolers that belonged to me and my wife just up and disappeared while we were cleaning up.

OBTW my sister goes to a completely different church than I do is why I did not know the boat had been used there and had disappeared.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I guess this is another expensive life lesson in not to trust anyone with your stuff. I mean anyone.
