I just updated my software and 90 percent of the tuning parameters are gone , it don't even have any fuel or spark tables,no knock tables ,hell everything useful is gone . Has anyone else had this problem or know whats going on , this update just made the software useless to me .

Know if they're forcing the update? Getting ready to continue on with tuning. Never once did i receive an email. Purchased it years ago.

Also never once "had to" connect to the internet to use it. hmmm

yea don't think I got this email either , or I never would have updated , and now my handheld says it needs a firmware update and I run e85 often ,or lets say I used to ,I feel like the people that paid money for FULL CONTROL over the ecu needs a refund , because I don't see one setting left in my software that has anything to do with actually tuning the car . 1000$ worth of tuning tools that is pretty much useless at this point . complete bs

The software has always connected to the internet. Whether you realized it or not. That's what the "burns left" in the lower left corner were for. To make sure you stayed up to date.

I did all the training as required and I still have full control. I thought I had lost a couple tables, but an email to SCT corrected that. I actually have a couple more tables that I didn't have access to previously. Not that I plan on tuning anything with drive by wire any time soon.

I've never had my hand held tell me it needs an update. That's just weird.

IMO the ones having the issues are the ones that didn't do what was required. It's been a known issue since December. It was all over the net well before the deadline. They should have been proactive instead of waiting and now having to do extra steps to get their tuning software back.

Here is the skinny on SCT. As many of you know, SCT was fined by the EPA for things done by Bully Dog (a mostly diesel specialized company) prior to SCT acquiring them. The issues were diesel tuning issues. The EPA, in part of the settlement, made SCT also train and test any users of their software for emissions compliance. So now when you get their software, and this applies to past users too, including all dealers like ourselves, you have to take a ‘course’ which is a bunch of PowerPoint slides, mostly about diesels. You then take a five question test (we had five questions, your results may vary). You have to get 100% on the test. It is no problem getting 100% because all the answers were in the PowerPoint and if you downloaded the PowerPoint ‘training’ you can refer to it to as much as you like.

Before you take the training, SCT will ask you what you are using the vehicle for. You need to be honest, but you need to keep in mind a person who tells them it is being used for casual street use, may get less parameters than someone who tells them you are using it for R&D of an off-road vehicle. They do not check on it. This is all just a bunch of government hoops to jump through. And SCT wants to remain a viable company.

People who already have the software may have seen their software have less parameters – essentially become worthless. That actually happened to one of our USB dongles. They forced us to do an update and our parameters were downgraded to essentially nothing worth anything. We got it fixed quick by emailing them. If you are in that situation, you need to email them at: [email protected] and tell them you need to take the course and get your full access again – and remember to tell them what you are using the vehicle for to get as much access as you can.

People are kidding themselves if they think this is not going to happen to the rest of the tuning industry. SCT was just first. They had enough resources to weather the storm. Other companies may not. In our opinion SCT is a really good supplier of tuning software and you should not let this dissuade you from using it. I’ll not get involved with arguments of who is better or worse. We carry all of them and like all of them. But prefer certain companies for certain applications.

Hope this helps the people who posted here get their access back!

Wow! Thanks for clearing that up. I’m an end user rather than tuner but I was concerned about what hurdles I would have. I’m confident my tuner is on top of all of that and it’ll be smooth sailing.

Thanks Don!

So, I'm in the process of doing the training. My only concern is that while I do have high flow cats installed, I was told once I complete the training and get access to everything restored I will NOT be able to disable my rear 02 sensors. Has anyone else run into this?

Even if I re-install the rear 02's - I have some issues with that.
1 - my wideband is installed on one side taking up the bung
2 - I don't even have my old rear 02's would have to buy new ones and install them and then weld in a 3rd bung for my wideband.
3 - Even if I do install them will they work and give a good signal to the ECU with high flow cats? I tried the MIL Eliminators years ago and they never worked.

Just seems like there has to be a good work around for something like a 2004 Cobra... Plus from an emissions stand point I'm running E85 so I am burning cleaner than any new stock gasser out there.

I can totally understand this from a diesel truck stand point... We can thank the red necks rolling coal on youtube for that. I'm fully deleted diesel guy myself and I can tell you the difference in towing with and without your DPF and EGR is NIGHT and DAY.

Update - at least for AMZ1/AMZ2 (03/04 Cobra) I had full access restored. Thank god I won't have to re-install my rear 02 sensors and weld a bung in... what a pain that would have been. I just told them straight up... I have heavily modded 04 Cobra, MAF, Injectors, blower swap, return fuel system - I need full access. When you're filling out the questionnaire there is a field at the end that asks is there anything else we need to know about your situation. So that's where I plead my case for full access.

At least my car would easily pass emissions regardless even by 2019 CARB standards.

I was going to say I retained my full use. I lost the values under OBD II, but after I sent them an email I have those back as well. Essentially nothing changed for me. I even gained access to drive by wire. Although nothing I tune has it.

happy to hear your back up and running but knowing that SCT can shut u down whenever they choose is still a little unsettling.

I highly recommend upgrading to a moates quarterhorse. Its only $250 and is fsr superior to SCT. The best part is that the custom tuning software is open source and free so you can never be locked out.

I picked up a quarterhorse for this exact reason. Also because i need to make adjustments to my idle dashpot and do not want to have to take it to my old tuner to do so. He won't send me my tune and it's locked into my xcal2(yes its that old). btw thanks for the great reference site!
