Real carbon fiber roof for 94-04 mustangs

Company is HCM. I don’t know the weight saving, but it’s a cool idea.

I like that.
I see it as an easy install, but I would advise against doing this yourselfnif you don't have auto body work experience.

If anyone wants to have this done, I will gladly do the install.

I have their CF bumper letter inserts. Pretty good quality but there's a member on here that said some of his stuff from them has yellowed over time.

I like the look but honestly I'd probably just have had my roof wrapped for a quarter of the price.

I never really liked the look of the carbon fiber body parts but I realize the are light weight and strong as heck.

It looks nice in my opinion, but I cringe when I see major mods like this. At some point, someone will want the car to be all stock and this would be a tough one to undo.

Why do we have two separate threads about this?

I started it here then a minute later realized it should be in the exterior interior mod area.

Funny thing is it’s gotten more views/responses here. Go figure.

I agree it needs a mechanically experienced installer honestly.

I think when someone makes a mod like this they've already crossed a few lines. Such as the SRA swap and probably an auto swap. I would think this would be more popular with the race car crowd than the street guys. Just my opinion.

Yes, but like the muscle cars of the 60s/70s, when the race car crowd are done beating on their cars, they’ll eventually land in the hands of people wanting to make the cars whole again.

I enjoy wild mods like these, but I’m always thinking longer-term. I mod my GT500, but I like to stick with mods that can be reversed fairly easily.

If people want it done, I would seriously swap the roof skin for them. In my eyes it is an easy way to make a few dollars as long as the carbon is consistent.

I want to do it because I got quoted $350 to do a carbon looking wrap roof, and already spent $250 a few years ago to do a flat black roof. Considering that’s just vinyl and fake/poser stuff, if I can get a real carbon skin for a little more than twice the installer vinyl price, then to me it’s a no brainer. I would have thought it’d be more like $5k to get a carbon fiber roof without install.

More so, it’s cool in a legitimate way. The 2004 bmw m3 gtr had a real carbon fiber roof, and almost everyone has been doing imitations since. With what I’ve already done on my car, I think doing a real carbon fiber roof would be pretty snazzy and a niche.

At the price it’s really hard to say no

I have a bunch of the HCM stuff on my car. I’ll list them and their condition;
Trunk and wing :cracked and hazy (won’t warranty)
Defroster vent: cracked so bad it may not be salvageable
Wiper cowl: Made poorly had cracks in it within a month of owning it
Carbon cowl: got out of this hood as soon as I could. Cracked, warped, and need serious work only a week after getting rid of it.

I would never buy anything from HCM simply due to the person who owns the company and their QC and customer service is spotty and not professional.
Only reason they have that roof template is someone paid to have their very converted to full carbon (looks terrible) and they started R&Din parts. I hope someone starts making them at a better cost and quality. Carbon driven is so busy they told me they won’t have time to make new parts for some time.

Cool, but seems like it would be inviting new leaks around the windshield.
That would be my concern as well. The fit would have to be perfect. Looks that way in the photo, but I'd definitely want a solid warranty. It would not be a pleasant experience to get their product installed and then discover a new leak. Suddenly both the installer and the supplier are pointing fingers at each other. Not saying leaks would be an issue, but I'd want an assurance from both supplier and installer. JMO.
