Phoenix Metro: Peoria, Surprise, Anthem, Cave Creek, Carefree, North Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills. Absolutely beautiful country out here. Lake Pleasant to the NW of the metro area and Salt River to the east.[/bcolor]
[bcolor=transparent][/bcolor]
[bcolor=transparent]Just stay out of SW Phoenix, South Glendale, Tolleson, parts Goodyear and Avondale, most of Mesa, Guadalupe, Maryvale, and DEFINITELY DONT go to Apache Junction.[/bcolor]
[bcolor=transparent][/bcolor]
[bcolor=transparent]Tucson (and metro): Oro Valley, Winterhaven, Catalina Foothills, West Tucson in the foothills.[/bcolor]
[bcolor=transparent][/bcolor]
[bcolor=transparent]South of Tucson and the I-10 its Cowboy country (illegals). North of I-10 and up is ok. No issues in Phoenix.

[bcolor=transparent]Surprised there is no mention of Lake Havasu City. My in-laws winter there and we've visited the last 3 winters, all in February. There are a lot of old people but it's a safe city with plenty to do. [/bcolor]

Florida is the rental car state of the US. A lot of people are here “temporarily” and treat each other accordingly.

Summer feels like climbing into a clothes dryer when it’s halfway done.

The state doesn’t have the infrastructure to support the influx of residents and traffic is enough to make you want to move. That, and the way people drive.

Love bugs.

It rains almost every afternoon from May - October.

I’d move but my wife’s family is here.

So my requirements are no cold weather at all. A red state. And absolutely can not be landlocked.

I’m used to people treating each other like shit. I’m from Mass.
I’m used to basically the worst traffic in the US so Florida would be an improvement.

In the summer I’d probably head up to New England and stay up there for a few months.

I’m open to any suggestions on what would fit my needs more than Florida.

Northern Phoenix area. Have Lake Seguaro and a few others just past Fountain Hills outside of Phoenix. One thing to consider is that there are reptiles in the desert. Most people don't encounter them but there has been the occasional rattle snake or scorpion that has come up to people's front or back doors. My fiance loves AZ and would love to live there. I like it, but the reptile thing just freaks me out. I have a buddy who has lived in Phoenix for 4 years. He encountered a rattke snake once when hiking and occasionally there are scorpions in the alley behind his house. If you're good about keeping doors shut when you go in and out of the house then there shouldn't be an issue of a creepy crawly getting in.

I really do appreciate the reply and I should have been more specific.
Not being landlocked only equates to being near the ocean. I need that salt in my life if you were indeed talkin to me.

The one upside is that you guys dont have emissions or inspections. For a car guy that alone could be worth the hassle of dealing with the rest of Florida's.... quirks.

I dont think I could personally. You guys have some BIG-ass Nope-ropes. I do love rain though.

While I love Arizona and the Phoenix/Scottsdale area since I have many friends living out there already and I have been out there many times the need to live within 10 minutes of the ocean is most important to me. Secondly would be the snow and lack of it. I can remember the great times I had out there in Az. especially at the Great Alaskan Bush company if anybody knows what I am talking about. I doubt its quite as good as when I used to go there years ago.

Consider the Georgia coast but no hills here. GA is situated on East coast where hurricanes hard to hit. Coast of living good and gated communities offer security. I'm in Savannah...Retired prosecutor...

Certainly a good choice. I love Savannah and Taibi island. My good friends live in Richmond Hill Georgia just south of Savannah near the Ford plantation and have been there for over 20 years. They love Georgia.

Yup, I wanted to go in mid-late march this year but my wife would have been too pregnant to fly so we went in early February.

I wouldn't move to Tucson, it's a real butthole of a place. I've been here for almost 3 years and hate it. Love our house, but we will be moving within the next 3 years. We are looking at Phoenix, Texas/Dallas area, Florida or Alabama coastline.

Savannah is beautiful, I was TDY there back in 2009 for a few weeks and loved it.

Haha. I spent quite a bit too much money at that place when I was stationed at Luke from 09-10.

Before you consider VA, look into the taxes here. No thanks...

NC is great, but most of the state has emissions, so depending on your cars that can be an issue.

My girlfriend and I want to get a couple hundred bucks together to take her dad there for a night. Lol, that or a brothel in NV.

We vacationed quite a few times in St. Pete Beach, FL when our daughter was an infant, we liked it so much we still go back.

We already have a beach home in Md, about 3 hours away, or we would look into buying something now in St Pete.

Another vote for Georgia/SC coast. I am still trying to get to the Charleston area. I would skip myrtle Beach but Isle of Palms, Folly, Edisto, Savannah, Tybee Island, Beaufort are all really nice.

Florida is such a diverse state. 1 hour south you could be stuck in traffic forever, hour north you could be going 90mph easily on I-95.
Some places are really chill, laid back and nice people, and then you got a bunch of weirdos and sketchy areas 30 minutes from the nice parts.

If you are looking for nice beach towns, can't beat the east coast like the treasure coast up to the space coast. More affordable, and so far I haven't run into a lot of weirdos/assholes and the traffic is worlds better than Boca/Fort Lauderdale etc. Of course the trade off is lack of night life and events etc

West coast is nice too, but I've mainly been there for spurts, and haven't actually lived there. Like the Tampa/Sarasota area.

Boulder City, Nevada. It is 30 minutes from Las Vegas but you wouldn't know it. No gambling and has a "small town" feel. Views of the mountains and Lake Mead, and plenty to do. We live in Henderson and can make it to BC in 20 minutes. I want to move out there permanently, but I've got two kids in school who have friends.
