Egr question

I’ve been having some idle/drivability issues, so I got my buddy to smoke test the car. There was smoke coming from the egr. From what I understand, the egr should be fully closed and not leaking at all. This is my second egr with the same issue. Any thoughts or ideas?

Delete it. Lethal and VMP both sell the block off kits. They're cheap, and you'll need a small change made to your tune.

Could it be a tune issue?

I dont see a reason to delete it unless your going to be a full race car. Mind you when you delete it you need a new tune.

Negative. My short fuel trims are all over the place indicating unmetered air. And the egr is definitely leaking when smoke tested.

Are the function of the egr in the tune correct? You say your on your 2nd egr was the 2nd one a brand new OEM ford egr? Not normal for egr to fail at low mileage. But if the ecu is telling it to open when it shouldnt it maybe other issue.

I hear what you’re saying but it’s leaking when smoke tested with the car not on. From what I understand, the egr should be sealed at that point and not leaking at all. Brand new EGR from ford.

I would not delete EGR as emissions testing will likely be a problem down the road. Fuel trims all over the place could be lots of things, like bad O2 delay setting, bad O2s, bad MAF curve, exhaust leaks(common with headers) etc. A major vacuum leak that would mess up idle, would be easy to find IMO.

It was easy to find. It’s leaking from the egr like stated. Not worried about emissions

EGR delete requires new tune cause without this the fuel trims are to lean and combustion chamber/piston temps would be to high while cruising. Main thing in an EGR delete tune is enriching the cruising fuel tables, hence the slight reduction in MPG.

Is the leak coming from the SC mounting surface, the ERG unit itself or the EGR NPT tube threads?

Also if you remove the EGR besides a tune you also need to make sure you carefully remove the SIP sensor thats integrated into the EGR unit, this sensor is a must for proper function, the HOW TO will explain.

It’s coming from the EGR unit itself. Ill definitely be getting it retuned for it, thanks for the advice.
