Well it's been since 2013 since we've owned a mustang (sold my Supercharged 2000 GT on here), but we just picked up a used lightning blue 2017 GT Coupe. Went and test drove a two new cars this weekend (2019 GT and 2019 SS), both of which were nice. The dang interest rates these days are ridiculous, especially on a new car. Thus we opted to find a slightly used car and pay cash for it. Picked up this car for $29K out the door.

We were actually leaning toward the 13-14 body style and a premium with leather. That said, the only thing that I wanted that I didn't get here was the leather. I can live with that.

The car is still under warranty through 2024 or 100k miles, whichever comes first. Are there any mods I can do that will not void the warranty? I have been told that any tuning will void the warranty as they can scan for any previously loaded tunes. Eventually I'd like to go with a blower, but I know that's out of the question until then. Also, if there are any mods, which would people suggest?

Nice Find! Brand new car pretty much and a beautiful color! Change out the badges to black, tint all the lights and markers and upgrade the stereo. One 12" and an amp would be more than enough for the subs, then work on the mids and highs.

tinted lights looks cheap and ricer imo. Op, enjoy it how it is as I’m sure it’s no slouch.

Thanks! Yeah the chrome badge kinda stands out. I’ll look into the light stuff and see if it’s for us. As for the sub, know of a good walkthrough article telling you which wires and such to tap for remote and signal feeds for external amp? Also, I have a JL 12” and would like to find a cheaper version of their stealth box. Something that fits in the corner of the trunk, any suggestions? And yes I will get to the 6.5”s as well, but not sure I need an amp for those.

Thanks for the reply. It’s no slouch for sure. My 2000GT was built and blown (546rwhp), so it’s not that fast, but feels faster than the wife’s stock 03 Cobra did. Handles and stops MUCH better than both.

This may open Pandora’s box, but I love the way those Ghost Tunes sound, anyone got anything good/bad to say about them? I’m still running the factory midpipe and I heard you have to change that to off-road. Don’t really wanna do that, car is loud enough. Also heard that tune really hurts drive-ability. Of course it would probably void my warranty, so probably out.

There are some audio gurus on here but I am not one of them. I went with a box that took up less space and was not happy with it. I ended up going with a JL Audio 1000 amp and a Sundown 12" and box designed just for it, amazing. My Truck is done stereo wise but still working on the Mustang.

Although I'm a fan of black badging to match your wheels and trim I'd sure have to agree with @TK1299 that your new ride looks plenty drive-able as it sits now. Why not get a bit of seat time and see what it'll do? Then you'll have an even better idea of what you'd like to change next.

Great color, nice car. Have fun!

Congratulations Danny. That's a nice looking GT. I love the paint color.

What interest rate were you quoted on a loan? I ask because you said interest rates are crazy, especially on new cars. I just bought a 2019 Genesis G70 and got 1.9% for 5 years through Genesis.

Enjoy that Mustang!

Hey Bob,

It depends on the car and the manufacturer promotions. On the mustangs the best you could find was 1.9 for 36, but that forfeits the rebates. Generally the best apr was 3.5%, and I have 800+ credit. Back in 2014 We bought my wife’s 2014 Lexus at 0.9% and my 2015 Silverado at 1.9% in late 2015.

Thanks for the compliments on the car! We love it!

Danny

Nice car! I love Lightning Blue!

Warranty...are you sure a CAI and tune will void the warranty? I think it depends on your dealer. Maybe its because I live in Vegas and in this town anything goes, but I've had warranty work done on my car and it isn't stock.

I like the leather in mine; you can always buy aftermarket seats. Is that an option?

Thanks! Yeah on the seats, if I did anything I'd like to find the Recaro's in leather form, the Ford ones. I really like those. Wonder if the Recaro's from a 13-14GT would fit?

Yeah I might have to check on the warranty stuff at my local dealer. I'd really like to get a nice tune (and maybe the ghost tune for car show days). Did you really see any improvements with the CAI and tune?

Nice ride - congrats!

The only stereo upgrade I needed was a set of used Borla S-type mufflers. Perfect sound - no drone. I hardly listen to my stereo. The Roush mufflers I have heard are too harsh sounding for my taste. A good tune from AED will wake up your car. If you’re not bearing the hell out of it I wouldn’t worry about the warranty from a motor standpoint. A MGW shifter is a huge upgrade as well.

I love the Recaros but they are expensive!

I did the exhaust, CAI and tune all at once, so yes, I saw improvements. However, I'd assume the CAI only made a minor contribution to that improvement, its hard to tell.

I have a Roush exhaust, and from a cold start it is LOUD lol. However, I love the way it sounds overall. There is a bit of a drone in 5th/6th on the freeway but nothing terrible.

I had Borla on my 2000 GT and loved it. Would have been my preference if I was needing a set, but this car already has the Roush A/B and since I don't daily drive it, it's good. On the tune, who is AED? Isn't that the CAI manufacturer? Or a custom tuner? Sorry for the stupid question, just been out of the game for a while.

I agree the cold start is loud, but it tones down as the engine warms. This is why I don't wanna go with an OR X/H pipe.
