I just realized the OP said "not looking for a fast car or a project, thinking like a wrangler" and 80% of the suggestions are something that can be built into a hotrod. Love this forum lol

Lol I didn’t want to say anything....

But hey I haven’t had a hotrod for over 10 years and I still frequent this forum so they’re doing something right

Focus ZX4 ST. Basically an SVT Focus but with a Mazda 2.3L. Uses almost the exact same suspension setup as the SVT Focus but a better engine(albeit less horsepower) and transmission. Throw some Koni's Sports, big rear sway bar and 200tw tires and go to town at the autocross in the HS class.

They are stupid cheap at this point. Under $3,000 with lower mileage.

No problem. The best part about them is that they fly under the radar on both insurance and available parts.

We were going to run one for our Chump Car but found the Elantra for MUCH cheaper($350 and it ran!). If i hadnt found the Elantra we would be building a silver 2004 ZX4 ST as our Chump. Still thinking about picking up the one that is local to me(its clean as hell) and just making a nice little auto-x car out of it. It has under 100k on it and they want $2500. I think i could get them down to $1800-2000 and spend $500 on maintenance items and another $500 or so on the basic suspension upgrades.

Either way, if you grab one post it up. Would love to see them get some recognition.

Honestly if I was to pick a car for under 5k and didn't care about gas mileage I would go with an older Wrangler all day.

I had a 1997 TJ for a few years and it was arguably the most fun vehicle I have ever owned. Currently own a 2012 Wrangler and lets just say I don't think I will ever not have a Wrangler in my life.
