Hi Guys,

So I have been in a bit of a quandary lately. I currently own a 2003 Mustang GT, mildly modified and a 2013 Fusion Titanium AWD. I have had the Mustang for 7 years and I am kinda bored with it. Doesn't put a smile on my face any more. I only drive it in the summer during nicer days as well. I thought of supercharging it but I do not want to put all this money into that car anymore, doesn't seem worth it to me. Still handles/feels like a New Edge Mustang even with the suspension mods.

A car I miss dearly is my old Contour SVT and the RS kinda reminds of it, but obviously a few levels higher. I do not want a ST as I want AWD and power without having to mod. (Driven both)

I have been thinking about this for some time and the RS seems to check most of the boxes for me. But in order to do that I would sell the Mustang, trade the Fusion, and Pick up the RS as the daily/Fun car. I miss having a fun driving car everyday.

Now if I was single with no kids, no problem, just get a newer Mustang. But I am married with a 3 year old and plan to have one more. I know once #2 happens, the Mustang (or any other 2 door car) will never get driven so I want something fun to drive everyday while being able to do some family duty. Wife has an Escape so big trips can be done with that.

I was all ready set to go and do this but I feel like I am getting cold feet. (Mustang is for sale currently and would prefer to sell it before doing this, Fusion would get CarMaxed or traded)

Thoughts?

I cant see any real downside with making this happen. Also, with a few mods you can up the boost, cool the charge air and make more power. Those RS' are bad-ass cars man.

I considered the Golf R, I would want to do an 18+ with the refresh if I considered it and those are not quite in my range. But I just can’t over how plain it looks.

RS7 is not in the budget. Not looking to spend much more than 30K. Have the ability to spend more just really don’t want to.

I also considered a STi but having a hatch seems more handy.

I currently have an STi and like it. Unfortunately, if you are looking for fun, AWD, and around the $30k mark there just aren't that many options. WRX/STi, RS, Golf R, S3, CLA 45 AMG, and Evo come to mind.

The newest Evo would be a 2015 I believe, and it's way behind the other cars interior wise. The S3 is essentially a Golf R in sedan form with no manual option. The Mercedes would be a 2014-2015, maybe a 2016. If you want a hatch that leaves the RS and Golf R unless you get a previous gen WRX/STi.

RS looks so badass but Im afraid of all the bad rep it has on reliability which is why we still have a FOST. The Golf R is probably what id buy but it is just so damn bland looking id rather have the weak fwd ST so... Thats my useless opinion

Would you consider modding the Fusion? FMIC, downpipe and tune can make it more fun to drive. AJPTurbo (Brad) can tune it to run pretty good. His personal Fusion runs full E85 tune only.

Want AWD. Want my wife to be ok with winter driving it.

AWD does not make your car stop any faster in snow.
I see a lot of people with this mentality here in Sweden and honestly in my opinion AWD less safe than 2wd in my honest opinion.
Why? In snow, with AWD which just plows on, you're given a false sense of security believing that "it's not that bad". But once you need to brake, it does not matter at all what wheel drive you have. It will slow down in the same manner anyways, and with false sense of security given by AWD you're often in situations in higher speeds than said 2WD.

Just my 2 cents but hey, I spend only 6 months a year in snowy and icy conditions.

SHO will come in way under the 30k/20k budget.

RS's are nice, and big plus if you want a manual. However, if your wife doesn't like driving stick, then scratch that.
