Hi guys,

I know there is a probably 40 plus battery threads of... best battery, lightest battery, etc.

I recently just purchased a 95 cobra w/ hardtop and the battery was from 2014 so I wanted to get a newer battery in the car. My Terminator battery is much newer, but as fellow Terminator owners know, that at any time your Alternator can crap out on you and having a good battery is imperative if you want to be able to get the car home and it's not charging.

Anyhow I had seen online from you tube that a guy got the pc1230 in his mustang with out any special mods.

The odyssey website advertises the PC1200 to fit these cars but they need a top brace to fit as they have no lip to work with the ford battery tray hold down. Well the PC1230 (need the top post version though) has a lip and it is a direct replacement in my opinion as I can use the factory ford hold down and stock battery tray.

The PC1230 also has 220 more cca (760) than the PC1200 and also 32 more min of reserve capacity (110 min). So if you do find yourself with a bad alternator, you may feel a little more comfort in knowing you can get the car home safely.

The 1230 weighs in at 43 lbs vs the 1200 at 38 lbs so if your concerned on weight there is a drawback.

Anyhow I just wanted to share this data so if any one comes searching for this data (like I was) there is some info on it. I am not sure how long the PC1230 has been available, but I plan to email Odyssey and share this info with them as well as it would be a less expensive option rather than paying for the PC1200 and also having to buy the hold down kit.

See photos below (top photo is battery in the car with the hold down in place and bottom photo is group 58 lead acid side by side the odyssey pc1230)

Awesome! I've been eyeing something like this as the battery in my car is about 9-10 years old. Still holding out ok, but I want to put an AGM battery in it as they are a bit better and more durable. Up until now I haven't seen a direct fit AGM battery for our cars, so this is awesome.

Odyssey is a great battery, I no longer use optima, just odyssey

Agreed. I used optima in the 90s and loved mine. Bought a second one later on and was a dud (2007 or so). Than I learned how they sent production south to Mexico after selling to Johnson controls.

Now to make me feel even worse of Johnson controls they moved headquarters to Ireland to not have to pay USA taxes.

I try to stay away from anything Johnson controls.

@ccq8le - where did you purchaxse the battery at? :)
Ordered from eBay actually.

Paid 280.00 with free shipping.

There was no core charge from eBay.

I wanted the battery right away so I bucked up for it. If it's not something you need right away sometimes the batteries plus or battery mart or... etc etc type of places have coupon codes and you can get lucky if you punch a code in and it works.

When I had bought an Odyssey for my Explorer I got lucky and used a coupon code and saved $$$ but it was a group 65 battery which is a much more common size and more available from places.

You also could order directly from Odyssey.

The drawback to ordering online is if you ever needed to Warranty an Odyssey battery it would not be an easy process like it is from a parts house.

This is an old thread, but I picked up the 1230DT batteries and I can't get it to work with the factory hold downs. It can still move a lot driver/passenger. Maybe they changed the design?

What does DT stand for?

Dt is the side terminal, like the pictured above. I assume it's Dual Terminal (DT).

So the battery doesn’t actually say DT. The photos show the space where the battery doesn’t lock into the tie down. There isn’t space on both sides, I’m shifting the battery drivers/passengers for the photo.

Bummer.

It looks very close but doesn't seem to bite on to it for you....

Hopefully you can maybe put a thin piece of metal or something under the battery hold down that could make it a bit longer for s better clamp to it?

I may have changed my hold down over the years (corrosion or whatever) and it could be slightly bigger than oem..... ??

Looks like mine has a gold hold down bolt compared to your photo.

Maybe you can get this to work. I bought one when I ran an Optima years ago. It's a little wider than the stock hold down. I had it machined down to work with a stock battery later on.
