Well I don’t have a million years to explain myself. Not real interested either. The idea that “thousands of people lose their jobs every day” has very little to do with my comment. If you can’t understand why I wanna keep Americans in jobs, I don’t know what to tell ya.

That’s fine that you don’t get it or don’t agree with me. Perks of living where we do. You have your opinions and I have mine. I also didn’t mention anything about being out of work permanently. I just don’t wanna see a lot of good hard working people lose their jobs.

It’s the decision makers up top that many seem to take issue with. It’s not like the worker bees are given any choice. They do what they’re told. And being out of work is tougher on those worker bees than some VP of whatever division.

Of course, none of this is a problem for SVTP ballers. “Around here we don’t get fired, we do the firing...”

You basically value the jobs of their employees over the lives of the people who might be affected by a faulty air bag. Some people died because of faulty air bags? All good.....at least GM's employees didn't lose their jobs, right?

I'm perfectly happy to not share that opinion.

I will never ever in a million years understand this mentality. Do you honestly believe they'd be permanently out of work?

There are probably thousands of people who lose their job working at a small business every day. Do you worry about the impact that has?

I think the thought process behind this is twofold. One, no one really wants to see people out of work. Two (which will more directly relate to your objection) having that many people out of work all at the same time in the same line of work can have a very major impact on the economy. Even on the remaining brands because while demand would shoot up at other makers immediately, the capacity to handle the request would not.

There would be a big delay from when someone gets laid off until they could find work at a competitor.

I personally do not like GMs management but that doesn't mean that put out crappy vehicles. The engineers over there still manage to put out some great vehicles. It is very sad though that GM is taking this route with the recall. It will come back to bite them.

One of the biggest gripes I have with large companies is trying to use their employees as a bargaining chip vs. profit margins.

Walmart is the absolute worst about doing it. They'll tell you how much the cost of their goods would go up if they paid their employees a working wage, but don't reveal the fact that it would only be because they want the same quarterly profits, although they would most likely still turn a profit....

The same for the GM thing. The cost of replacing the airbags would be roughly half of the profit of one, single quarterly earnings. Not, "it would bankrupt us", but "we wouldn't make as much profit for one quarter." Profit. They wouldn't see a loss of revenue at all.

But, we are a society where we actually put a price on a person's life. What people don't realize is that it isn't anything new for us. Less than 100 years ago, we had small children working in dangerous jobs because, well, profit. Mention changing things like that will get one labeled communist, socialist, etc. Mostly, because people don't think further than what their Facebook circle tells them too, etc.

They just had a massive layoff and the CEO gave herself a raise. Im hoping they pull their shit together before it blows up again

Fake news.....her compensation actually dropped from 2017 to 2018. It's actually been on a 3yr decline.

Let's at least have our facts straight before we engage in this public flogging

Seriously? That’s obviously not what I meant. Got to love the internet. This could easily be a troll post from you. Since you can’t see what I meant, spin my words all you want, if it helps make your argument. I’m not gonna waste any more time arguing anymore with ya. I made my point. Some will agree, some will disagree.

Move-along people, nothing to see.

In a time where Honda is sending people door to door with tow trucks and rental cars begging customers to do their takata recall, GM is ducking responsibility. That about sums up GM in this day and age. Didn't they push back the ignition recall for years because of they didn't want to fix some cheap part in it?

It's quite simple. Either you're in favor of GM doing what's right, whatever the cost, or you're not.

You've made it clear you don't want them to because it might hurt them financially, and people might lose their jobs.

There's nothing "troll" about my post.

I’ll leave DBK quote right here that’s in my sig....
“[DBK;14952085]It's only the special cases where a company willfully covers up defects that kill people, then has the government unload their outstanding shares 60 days before it becomes public knowledge, and installs the friendly female CEO so they can drag her in front of Congress and she can say "I'm a Mom. Look at me, do you think your Mom would intentionally try and kill you?" And then allow bankruptcy to shield them from liability from said defects while granting $45 billion in tax loss carry forwards. Go GM!”

One, no one really wants to see people out of work..

I don't know, I've known quite a few uber-idiots who somehow got into positions to make critical decisions... Wouldn't mind seeing them on the side of the road with a cardboard sign. But on the whole, you're right, nobody likes seeing lots of people put out of work (unless they short-sold company stock).

Did they ever pay back our money to the gubment? I didn't think so.

No, they completely stiffed taxpayers. In the five years since GM's bankruptcy it made $22.6 billion. But taxpayers lost $10.6 billion on bailout that saved the company.

And don't forget that stockholders were essentially wiped out completely when they did file for bankruptcy. Odumbass changed the rules to pay out the union before suppliers and stockholders. How that piece of shit got away with that without anyone going after him is beyond me. Investors Betrayed by GM and Obama - Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, Version 4.0

My 2012 RS3 had the recall on both airbags. I got notification in the mail and then a call from my service guy at the dealership for the driver's side replacement. Ford only replaced the driver side one and told me the passenger side ones would be done at a later date. I had the car for at least 2 more years after the driver's one was replaced and I never got another notification for the passenger side. Doesn't seem like Ford is doing that much better than GM!?!

Wow, they knew of the defect for 10 years before anything was done, which has already killed 13+ people.

Kind of like Tesla. Their investors have lost $10 billion since 2010(total cash burn) but Musk net worth has increased by $20 billion. Good work if you can find it. Haha
