So we bought a foreclosure home and one of the things we did was install a whole new front door frame and all. When installed the doorbell wires were pushed into the wall and sealed over. So for the past two years I have not had a doorbell. I would like to get one, with video, but have no wiring. Anyone have a video one that is battery operated? How do you like it? How often do batteries need to be replaced? Should I try and get the wires back and hard wire it?

***EDIT***

Today on Amazon the Ring Pro is $50 cheaper than the Ring.

Grt tbe wires back out , and look at the couple they have on amazon .
Ring is the one my daughter has after having their house shot at last year .
They make solar powered ones also that can be run in tandem .

I've installed a Ring 2 and Nest Hello. Personally I prefer the Nest but you can't go wrong with the Ring 2 either. Video quality is better on the Nest. Service plan on the Ring is a tad cheaper.

I agree on getting the wires back.

Oh, be aware that if you go with either the Ring or Nest doorbells, because of their high, cost owners have had issues with people stealing them. Ring does offer a courtesy free replacement (new or refurbished). Just be aware. Hell, it sucks that anything of value not locked down tight is subject to theft nowadays.

Luckily I live in a gated community so theft is somewhat less and my next door neighbor has a ton of cameras all over his yard so hopefully if they hit us they will hit him too and get on camera.

I have the ring gen 1 which is decent, it worked great at first but now it never picks up motion from actual people coming to my door, as just a door bell it works great. also another thing on battery life, with motion detection I only get about a month or so before I have to charge it overnight even with the solar charger.

Living in a gated community is a plus, Josh!

I have a Ring 2 doorbell and a few of their stickup cams and wouldn't recommend it. Devices lag, quality isn't very good.

It's better than a traditional doorbell, but I've been looking to replace them with better units.

That is what I am afraid of. I found pics of where the doorbell was when we first bought the house and we will peel the modeling back and get to the wires. So I am going to go hardwired to prevent that.

Are the Ring or Nest bound by contract? Im having a hell of a time getting rid of my alarm contract now that it is over & looking for non contract deals.

What better units are you looking at.

I am narrowed down to Nest Hello and Ring Pro. Most of my home is Alexa devices but I like that the Nest says who is at the door.

So far, Nest is the best IMO. I also have Amazon devices in my house, but got my first Google Home and like Google way more than Alexas.
