Finally had an opportunity to dyno the VMP Gen3 TVS on pump E85 this weekend.
I’ve been driving the car all summer on reduced timing (17), 2.5 upper and KB168. It’s a riot with the new Strange CJ Spec 9” and 4.0 gear and actually hooks a second gear roll with careful throttle.
Changes to the car since it’s 965rwhp Gen 2R dyno:
- triple disc X-Clutch w/ lightened chromoly flywheel (SPEC alum. fly)
- Strange 9” 4.0 gear (built 8.8 4.10) w/ CF shaft
- Fore triple pump return
- 2.4 upper (previous 2.5)
- VMP Gen3 TVS w/ 173TB (BPS ported 2R w/ Whipple 170 TB)
- MT ET R 315/50/17 (previous NT05R 315/35/20) at 22psi so no spin

Results on pump E85 (tested E89) at 22 degrees timing:
1047rwhp/952rwtq STD (as I hear that’s how social media reports it :) )
1024rwhp/931rwtq SAE
23-24psi boost peak dropping to 19-20psi redline

Need to ad pics and vid.
This will be the start and I’ll shake down at NMCA Norwalk 8/24 and planning to run True Street. I’ll run ET R bias ply 28x12.5x15s and plan to fine tune and add some mods for Mod Nats in November.
Here’s to 9.50s at 150?
I do plan to redyno with tests on ice tank, exhaust cutouts and previous harder 20” Nitto. I have a local dyno to rent for fun tests, but really not looking for the dyno number only the track number.
For now, very happy with over 1000rwhp for over 1000rpm thru the stock mufflers.

SAE/STD graphs together. Working on vid. In the vid you see he had to carefully roll into it as it would spin easily. Over 900rwtq does that I guess.

Awesome setup BiminiLX. That amount of torque on the street has got to be a handful regardless of tires. I hope the 9" solves all of your previous 8.8" problems. I'm really curious to know if it starts to whine. I still haven't put my 4.10s in yet. I'm waiting to see how your 9" performs, and then I will decide if I want to spend the extra coin on a 9" setup.

Thx Steve. At this point the 9” is quieter than the trans even so I’m really happy with it. But I was happy with the built 8.8 until the track. We’ll see 8/25 on the drive home. Planning to drive there, run 9s in True Street and drive home.

Nice J, very good numbers. Glad to see the 173 worked out for you as well.

I'm also interested to hear how the 9" works out for you. My rebuilt 8.8 is whining like a bitch again, and I'm not interested in dropping any more $ into it.

Good to see it all come together for you. I know you are pondering the question, to R or not to R. Either way the car is gonna trap stupid fast in the 1/4 mile. However, the Stage3 R is as big of a leap as the 2.3 to 2.65 was.

For anyone that's wondering, we have killer pricing on the original Gen3 on our site:
VMP GEN 3 TVS 2650 Supercharger for 2007-14 GT500
Thanks a Justin. I appreciate the phone call on Saturday also.
I have no doubt the 3R would be a great upgrade!
It also confirms even the Gen 3 is very capable.
Unless you have racing goals, or are just plain crazy :), the torque from a 5.8/TVS2650 is more than enough for any street car. Rolling into the car at 3500-4000rpm from a 3rd gear highway roll is violent—and crazy good fun!
It’s impressive where you and VMP are taking the TVS to Ford vehicles, keep it up.
I saw the TVS inventor is now at Magnusson, so when are you going to dust off that 3.3 rotor pack?!

Solid those mufflers must be holding the combo back.
That is a very interesting question.
I have a few things I’d like to test on both the dyno and the track.
Mufflers usually don’t make much power, but on a higher power deal like this, I’d like to see if they’re worth some trap speed.
I also want the car to really be able to go beast mode with the cutouts. Welding in the stock mufflers was a wife concession, and it’s definitely keeping away unwanted attention when just cruising.

Thanks to all for the props, I’m happy to share the details and hit one of the goals for the ride, 4 digit power. Now for single digit ETs!

Working on loading a quick dyno vid, anyone have advice from an iPhone?

Thanks buddy, I’m definitely itching to unleash it on the strip. Handling all that torque with a manual and DOT bias plys might be a challenge.
I’m about ready to call this build done and focus on the real strip car. I might need some TT Coyote power advice very soon. Twin 62s are proven, but I’d like to rock 70s like you have if possible!
