It's the joos fault!

On a serious note there's good advice in this thread about getting labs done and getting an ekg. If I don't eat enough I can have episodes of feeling shaky and have low energy symptoms. But no chest pain.

Get it checked out. Where exactly was the chest pain located?

If it was a panic attack, even the strongest men have them. Some of us are just better at hiding it than others. Talk to your PCP.

Rock solid truth there. I was embarrassed as hell when the doctor came back on 1/27/17 and said I had a particularly severe panic attack. Turns out, in this day and age, it's insanely common.

Bleak life of modern times. :(

Pretty sure I just had my first one. Scared the shit out of me! I was walking through the plant at work then all of a sudden felt like I was having a heart attack. Minor chest pain, dizziness, felt like impending doom. I sat down in a A/C chilled room and felt mostly better in about 5-10 minutes.

Anybody have experience with this? I'd like to hear your stories and what you do/have done to prevent and deal with it. I'm 35 years old and don't think it has happened to me before.
with chest pain it is not blood sugar or diabetic related. Could possibly be a mild heart attack or other cardiac complications. either way see a a doctor NOW and don't put this shit off. Your job doesn't matter if you're not healthy. good luck brother.

To build on this.
Mines tied heavily to my stomach. I was sick for a long time, and dealt with stomach related issues (lost 40lbs in 3 weeks, in the beginning) daily for the better part of a decade. Though I’ve be better, body-wise, for a few years the damage was done to my mind and it can trigger an episode when I get in situations that I got sick in before. My biggest issue is the unwanted memories from the sickness come flooding back and the thought of going through it again terrifies me. 4 times of almost dying from it, and the last time the doctors said it was so bad that if it happened again I probably wouldn’t make it. Which result in weekly check ups for almost 2 years. So it screwed me up pretty bad, and towards the end I was beginning to give up, tired of fighting. I can’t travel at all, I have overwhelming anxiety when it comes to vacations so I rarely take one. Last one was 4 days in January of 2018, had to eat Valiums like candy to somewhat tolerate the traveling. I haven’t eaten out with friends in years. I could go on and on. Now what I’ve learned is this you have to not think about it, and it’s a challenge. Get something to keep you occupied; the less you think about the better. With the little that interests me I keep my mind fixed on them. The fear will always be a challenge to overcome as it’s very real to you and if your mind is like mine you’ll dwell on it making it worse. Surround yourself with things that comfort you. Mine are my dogs, and they can tell when it happens. Address now before it takes over your life, don’t become a hermit like I did. I can tell you it’s one of the hardest things I’m still trying to overcome.

Pick your poison.

Pick your poison.

To build on this guy's post, I had a couple attacks a couple years ago. Mine stemmed from my dad's suicide and probably drinking too much alcohol. I was in counseling at the time and the counselor said it happens more than people would like.

A few tools for your tool box.

Breathing... Yes, easy breathing. SLOW! 5 seconds in, hold for 5 seconds, then 5 seconds out. If you can do this for two minutes you're pretty good.

Describe your surroundings... Live in that moment only and realize where you are. Describe your surroundings down to the millimeter. It will take you a while but it will re-center you

Describe a task... Find something that you love and imagine yourself telling a person how to do that task down to the smallest detail. Example, a pilot may go through his pre-flight checklist. Mine was the anatomy of a golf swing.

Hope it helps.

First of all I would go to the ER and tell them you are having chest pain. They will take you in immediately and perform an EKG to make sure you are ok.
I experienced a panic attack after the birth of our son. My wife had a grand mal seizure at home with me and had a stroke. She was transferred to another hospital for the stroke. My son was in the NICU at a different hospital and I was trying to split my time seeing both of them daily while managing the house bills and dogs at home. One night when I was with my wife her arm started jumping around, scared the hell out of me because she lost feeling in her arm. I called the nurses and asked for the doctor, I had to get on them because I knew it wasn’t right. Later on, I was on the way home and I felt like my chest was getting tight and my palms where real clammy. I also felt an impending doom, just didn’t feel right. I stopped in the ER and they diagnosed me with having a panic attack. They gave me some meds to calm me down and stayed with them until I was able to deal with the situation I was dealt with. I hope you seek some help.

This is huge, and it does help. You literally just focus on breathing, nothing else. Not to go full-hippy because hippies suck, but sort of visualize the stress exiting your lungs. It does help. Not a magic fix-all, but if you feel yourself getting worked up and adrenaline hitting, it does help knock off the edge.

Hey guys, I went to the ER yesterday. EKG, blood work, and chest x-ray showed no signs of a heart attack. When the doctor told me I looked very healthy overall, I immediately felt much better. Went home feeling good and slept good last night.

My wife is a nurse at a cardiologist office, so she has been freaked out and I went to see the best heart doctor in town this morning. He told me that I looked and sounded healthy (another EKG performed and listening to me on the table)

Just to be safe, they were able to work me into a stress test and echo test today. Ill be heading to do that here in a few minutes.

Sounds like a classic panic attack then.

OP do you have any ideas or triggers that would put you in that state?

No I dont...but Im monitoring it now for sure. I had an echo done and a stress test. Everything went great. They had to run the shit out of me on the treadmill to get my heart rate up to 158. Im wearing a heart monitor for 3 weeks starting today...but everything so far is saying my heart is in great shape.

Im 35 years old (someone in the thread asked)

I've been nervous about things before. Starting a new job, a first date, getting pulled over by a cop. My pulse goes up and I have a need to urinate. Don't know if that's an anxiety attack though.

Anxiety and stress will do that.

Have you been able to identify what in your life could be causing you to have anxiety? Do you feel overwhelmed with responsibilities, was there a major event in your life, etc.

I get panic attacks at work and they are not like what others have described here. It only happens at work while on the phone. In certain situations I get extremely anxious and pretty much lose the ability to talk. It feels like I got the wind knocked out of me and I can’t finish what I am saying. I try to calm myself down but struggle to catch my breath. It is extremely awkward because I am stuck on the phone.

I'm still trying to figure out the "trigger"...Went to a big dinner party last night for my wife's aunt's 50th birthday. Felt like I was in a "fog" basically the whole time and just a touch of dizzyness that came and went. Soon as I got back home and laid down watching the race, I felt normal again. I didnt really feel any of the chest pain yesterday (all day)

Believe it or not, I counsel several members on this site due to panic and anxiety. I guess that is my way of contributing and helping where I can. If you want to talk about things, I am here.

Like you, and many others I've suffered through panic and anxiety. It isn't any fun. The mind can do amazing, and sometimes scary things.
