Most performance bang for buck is always gonna be a used car.

Maybe you're right. Any time I have met a GT500 owner or a fancy vette owner, they have not even explored the upper echelons of their vehicles' performance. Cars and coffee commute and then a quick babying in the garage.

I know some of the 911/Cayman guys are looking at the new mid engine Vette for sure, but that makes more sense as the Germans are stupid expensive for what they use it for- tracking and autocross.

Some people aren’t looking for used. But yes, I’d agree with you there.

When I’m looking at dropping $75K-$100K on a fast car, I sure as shit will be looking at the C8 and GT500

You would buy a Tesla over a gt500? Shame.

I was replying to Scoriox. I will be cross shopping GT500's and C8Z's among other performance oriented cars in the next year or two. Now I personally wouldn't look at a Tesla but I wouldn't fault anyone who does. I think excluding a vehicle based on someone else's perceived notion of class is idiotic. Buy what you like in your price range that checks off the things you want.

A comparison of a SUV and Truck not being in the same class is not the same as a comparison of two sports cars. Not my fault Ford made the GT500 a pig again or made it cost more than a Z06. They are both sports cars offered by rival companies. Unless of course you go with the notion that Ford has nothing in the less expensive class that the Corvette is in?
I think you’re pissed with Ford for not making what you said, making you look like an ass time and time again when nothing you said came true, that now you are excited as an 8 yr old on Christmas pushing anything that might have more power than the GT500. As for being a pig it’s always been a pig. 03 3700 vs 3100. 20 4200 vs 3700. Wait GM gained as much weight as ford over the same time period? Damn that sucks.
Are you so dense that you really think it was me saying that or simply me sharing what Motor Trend posted? Oh wait, you're from Cali...nevermind.

Either way, looks like it will kill the GT500....so there's that.
Posted above. I will add one thing. It does look like mustang camaro performance is getting too close to that of the vette, based on the new death of the camaro.

That's exactly what I said when I wrote 'Not my fault Ford made the GT500 a pig again'...so not sure what your point is???

Not pissed at Ford, more like disappointed they dropped the ball.

Have you seen the list that just leaked for the motor lineup on the C8??? That's why I'm disappointed.

Why are you disappointed it’s something it’s always been? It’s always been heavy? Why are you upset now that it’s heavy. You should have been complaining back in 03!

If you don’t like it don’t buy it. Buy a c8.

I think the performance and price of the camaro zl1 was too close to the vette. And getting closer each generation. Why do you think GM tried so hard to keep the base vette at $60k. Maybe because there will be no more camaro....

I think many of us look at several cars before settling on our final choice. About 18 months ago I drove several different performance vehicles. Some were luxury sedans, coupes, vette’s 911 etc.. before I made my decision. I suspect a performance junkie with a budget of 75-125k range will look at multiple cars. I would even test drive the RS6 wagon with 590hp coming to the states.

The final score will be settled when the cars are released to the general public. Until such time we are speculating.

I'm curious about this and am going to look back at top dog camaro vs. base vette through the years. I suspect the delta is about the same as it has ever been. If C8 stingray is comp to c7z06 (which it supposedly is) it will make mincemeat of a g6zl1 1le.

I'd bet money a 5th Gen Z28 Camaro runs circles around base C6 vette. Unless I'm misunderstanding how you're comparing things.

I was curious about this so I did a little homework on laptimes. You are correct. But I think this makes the case that there is nothing new about top dog camaro sniffing the ass of the base vette.

Um, because they had another chance to make is so much more and dropped the ball. Just because it was a pig in the past doesn't mean it needed to be a pig again, especially with today's available materials and technology.

The GT500 is not heavy, the S550 is heavy, that's what you're failing to understand. A normal GT flirts with 3800 - 3900 lbs, and bigger brakes, bigger engine, add a blower, add coolers, add aero... no amount of any exotic materials in any meaningful amount, or anywhere near a reasonable price will make a difference. And if they made a ton of light, one-off parts for the GT500 then it would cost $200k. Hopefully some things trickle into whatever the next chassis is, but it just is what it is at this point.

I do not follow this line of thinking. Get a mini cooper or a miata if you want something light. The gt500 is what it is - pretty good on the strip and will be pretty good on the track. Not the best at either but pretty good.

C8 IS A FAILURE since it doesnt stand up to the 991.1 Porsche offerings.

The Mclaren 600lt is a much better performance per dollar value, and the 720 is a real bargain now.
The huracan would be my choice however

The FitnessGram Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.
