Could Mustang be 'saved' from Ford?

Everyone knows Ford is now essentially a truck company. No cars other than the Mustang are in pipelines. I'm wondering how much longer until Ford wants the resources for another vanilla CUV.

The cost would be enormous, as the rights would all have to be purchased from Ford, but didn't Hummer and RAM kind of become their own 'brand' in recent years? Could the same thing happen to the Mustang?

I love the Mustang but have lost faith in Fords passion.

Ford's only "passion" is to be profitable.

Problem with the Hummer spinoff is that it wasnt really a spinoff. GM bought the civilian rights to the H1 and partnered with AM General to produce the H2. The HMMWV was still produced by AM General for contracts AM General held with the DoD. GM's idea of the H2 and H3 failed and Hummer brand died. The AM General H1 and HMMWV lived on.

RAM trucks is a brand division only, and still 100% A Fiat-Chrysler company.

If Ford decided to sell the Mustang to a 3rd party I dont think it would survive long on its own. Also, the cost of the car would probably skyrocket.

IMO, now would be a good time to bring the Hummer brand back. However, they should sell it under the GMC label through GMC dealers. Just call it Hummer by GMC or something. That way you avoid all the dealer franchising issues.

0 chance, sorry for killing your thread in the adolescent stages.

FPBP. Won't happen. I do see them continually doing stupid things for stupid reasons, like the Mach 1 / Mach E debacle or a Mustang-styled SUV abomination, but no, the Mustang will remain Ford.

people say that like its a bad thing. they're making the best cars they have ever made.
you can't do that if you go bankrupt. oh wait, you can get on that government tit like GM.
why would a business wanting to be profitable be a bad thing? That's the only way to keep the doors open.

Most of the rest of the population don't give two shits about a mustang anyway. Including these younger guys coming up.
If the Mustang was axed tomorrow & wasn't announced on assbook, they'd never even know it!

JMO, But Ford needs a leader to bring back the “Ford Total Performance” days and actually spend money on marketing to create some hype. It feels like everything they are making just feels soulless if that makes sense. They are actually making great vehicles, but I feel like there is no soul behind them and there is certainly no hype.

Profit are a must, for sure. Wanting to be profitable isn't bad, but it can't be the sole focus. If Ford doesn't design, market and manufacture what the consumer wants, ultimately sales and profitability dip. Not saying Ford is in trouble, but I'm not convinced they're on the road to continued success and continued profitability with their swing away from cars and lackluster marketing. Not everyone wants to drive a truck or SUV/Crossover. Not everyone who wants a car wants a Mustang. Ford needs to get back on track in multiple area, and that takes solid, visionary leadership. JMO.

I remember the 64 1/2 mustang and it was priced where everyone could afford it. Now look at it...Ford like GM and Chrylser have priced the car out of the younger persons budget. My 65 mustang had ample room for a crowded 4....todays car is a two seater and has lost utility...I've said for years ford needs a "Fusion" with v-8 rear wheel drive....but my 03 SVT cobra was my last Ford
