I’m debating between a newer suv or truck when I need a new vehicle next year. My current 99 Explorer is about to hit 214k and still runs and drives great but I know it’s time to move on soon.

I would like the utility of a truck with owning a home but don’t think I want to drive one full time. I prefer being in something smaller that I can zip around in.

I test drove a 17 GC SRT and loved it but don’t think it was worth $50k for basically a larger engine and some cosmetic changes.

The new ST Explorer is nice but too costly at the moment.

This is the part about buying a car I hate lol.

Get the SRT. The 6.4+ZF Trans is a stout 1-2 combo. Just run it in sport mode so the lifters won't be destroyed by the MDS.

That's my current DD and it's a fun SUV. Ain't no trackhawk, but I didn't come anywhere close to that price tag.

I'm sure I'm like many with the issue of funding my vehicles, lol. I have an beautiful Truck at 600 a month and a beautiful GT Mustang at 600 a month. For 1200 a month I could have one....almost anything. But then I would go down to one vehicle but have a more special vehicle. Raptor...Shelby? I digress.....

That'd be a hell of an upgrade

99 Explorer to GC SRT lol

Hell yes it would be!

I’ve been driving the explorer since 2013 and my Mustang during the nicer months of the year. Been saving lots of money with no car payment while waiting for the day I finally have to get a new vehicle.

I know it is and I’d be totally happy with my decision if I bought one. I wonder what the value of the track hawks will be in 3-4 years?

They may be making a Redeye Trackhawk for 2020 before the new Gen GC hit in 2021. If so, that may knock down the value of the regular TH.

I look at the chargers from 15-16 and they can still pull high 40's to low 50's used. So I would assume 50-60k used for a trackhawk 3-4 years from now, without the standard warranty.

I have always been a jeep guy for DD’s. But last year decided to switch to a truck (18 1500 Silverado Z71)

Not going back. I will always have a truck. Hell, i even get 3 mpg’s better with the truck over my JC.

A may upgrade to a 2500 next time though.

Back on the topic of trucks. What do you guys think of the gen 2 3.5 Ecoboost with the 10 speed?

I see they’re making just about 500 to the wheels with a tune. That would satisfy my itch for having something quick while having the utility of the truck. A lariat with the 502a, max tow, and sport package would be nice to have.

I only use a “truck” to pull my boat, sold an old expedition and bought a decked out 07 Q7 with factory V8 for 5k off a family friend. Going to the boat ramp with gear in an Audi is 1000x better than a truck, no regrets.

Just wait until something in the Audi breaks.

I think that's a myth is it not? About the MDS.
And, I do the same in my '16 Ram Sport 4X4, rcsb truck. I disable the MDS every single time, mostly because of the aftermarket exhaust the amplifies the time when the MDS engages and disengages. I hate the MDS actually.

Imagine that Almost 15k a year in liabilities not to mention the excise tax, insurance and reg fees that go with it sitting in an account averaging an 8% yield. Wow. Bonkers. Compounding interest my friend.

Never realized how impactful it was to my psyche to not have a truck.

Traded my nightmare of an 18' F150 off last weekend. Put the wife/future baby mama into a brand new Civic to save gas/keep the future baby safe.

I decided to take her old car, a 2012 Elantra Limited, and drive it. It's paid for. Gets over 2x the mileage of the truck, and cut down on our monthly costs immensely (civic vs F150 payment, gas, insurance, etc). Simple savings at 40 in gas vs 150-200 (we drove the truck a lot on the weekends and out of town) a month.

The only issue is adjusting to life with a house/car hobby and no truck. I've done it once before (FoST and Cobra), but it will take some time. Just curious who does the same, and how they overcame it when a truck was absolutely required. I can borrow friends/families trucks, but I don't want to assume anything either.

Lol what...I don’t know what the last 7 pages said but you have to be pretty insecure for your “psyche” to be damaged from not having a truck.

Marketing for the win!

I definitely agree I would be better off having only one. The Truck tax just hit and was 850.00 this year and the Mustang was 250.00 Wife pays the insurance on my truck and I pay for the Mustang. Luckily, I'm far from car broke. I still invest 10% which my company contributes 75% on the dollar up to 9% and also puts roughly 200 a month in a retirement account for me. I'm sure you're more savy than me though on investments, sounds like it.

I love my GC SRT as a dd. I'm on my second one already, and if the price of the TH goes down more that'll definitely be the next one I pick up.

Haha, I think he was being a little hyperbolic. But I can echo his sentiment. I have a 2001 Excursion V10 4x4 which I like, but the fuel mileage is deplorable. Only way Ill part with it though is if its a Super Duty or Excursion diesel.

I didn’t mean to sound like a dick just pointing out how much money it costs although I’m sure you’re already aware of it.

My dad sold his new truck because it was too nice to work out of and bought himself something he could actually use as a truck

That’s the dumbest ****ing shit I’ve ever seen. How efficient can you be working out of a car. What an ass hat.
