Curious to see what type of sentence she will get. Sleep deprivation will mess your thinking up. It's a tragic situation all around.

This question popped into my head while I was catching up on this trial news:

Has a civilian ever shot or killed an off-duty police officer in legal self-defense? What would have happened to Botham Jean if he had shot the officer when she walked into his apartment?

I think the "I intended to kill him" is a matter of semantics and more than likely meant as "Stop the threat". Having said that, being sleep deprived is not an excuse to kill someone. Tragic situation all around but she is definitely guilty of manslaughter and she should've never been a cop.

Probably would've been convicted of manslaughter because you know "Thin Blue Line". They would've more than likely covered one of their owns ass. Just like they do in Washington. Why isn't James Comey or Andrew McCabe in jail, because they cover eachothers asses. Why isn't the names of the Representatives & Senators that had sexual assault cases brought against them & paid off their accusers made public?

Plus, don't forget that he already did nothing wrong, yet the Dallas PD still searched his home AFTER they knew it was his own place, found small bits of weed, and tried to smear his name.

So, I'm willing to bet they would have made it harder on him than it legally or logically should have been.

It wouldn’t have any special factors of a citizen shoots and kills another citizen. An off duty cop is a private citizen like everyone else. They have 24/7 arrest powers, but that is if the situation calls for it.

If the tables were reversed, the consequences would be the same as any other case.

An off duty police Officers was punched and knocked out by a private citizen outside a bar. Off duty officer died due to slamming his head to the concrete upon falling. The guy that punched him didn’t even go to prison. He was given some type of probation.

Just playing Devil's Advocate...but any time you draw a weapon and fire, the goal is to kill. That said, I still don't see how that equals premeditation.

Premeditation would mean she went through that door knowing she was going to kill the man behind - right?

That would be incorrect sir. When you draw your weapon and fire at someone, you don’t necessarily have that intend of “I want to kill this person”. Your reaction is simply to engage so that person stops whatever he or she is doing or about to do to you or those around you. You just want that situation to take a halt. Not saying this is everyone’s thought process, but merely a general statement.

Finally a police officer was punished. Look I get and respect police officers they have a hard job but not all are good apples. Some think they'll above it and rarely get punished for they're crime's cause they so many other times. Let me tell you a story and this just happened yesterday. I was driving home from work yesterday and was talking to one of friends on my bluetooth in my truck. I had my palm against my face leaning a little cause I was tired. When a police officer passed me going the other direction and I clearly saw her on her phone talking. Then I see her turn on her lights and make a u turn. I thought she got a emergency call but nope she was pulling me over. When she came to my window I asked why I got pulled over she said for being on my phone since we have a hands free law. I laughed and said yeah right I told her I'll show you I wasn't and pointed to my dashcam. I told her it's a two view camera and it'll show what I was doing at the time and I also said it'll show when you passed me you we're on your phone too. She gave me this crazy look and just walked to her crusier turned off her lights and left. Moral of the story is cops are human too and just like humans we tend to lie and abuse power.

The bitch got only 10 years prison for murdering someone. Wow. Y’all think she deserved more than that? or does the sentence fit?

I haven’t followed the case closely...sentencing makes no damn sense to me as a whole. A bunch of people get minuscule years for killing others while some get crazy long sentences for selling drugs or not paying taxes.

So I don’t have an opinion on the length of the sentence, but I’m glad she was convicted.

It's about right. It was manslaughter plain and simple. She didn't harbor ill will towards the victim. She didn't want to kill someone, she didn't explode in a rage. She stupidly got absorbed in her own self importance, allowed herself to not be self aware and made a fatal decision. A wrong, awful decision that cost this young man his life and cost herself her freedom.

Good thing you had that camera. Ive had a few interactions with woman officers that were, interesting to say the least. For some reason they seam to go 0-100 in a fraction of a second.

I'm honestly surprised she didn't get off.

Why are you surprised? She shot someone dead in their own home.

100% positively........................disagree. The tragic situation is the innocent man who was murdered. Semantics aside, that is what she did to him. Her excuse of being tired and such is poppycock. IMO police officers should (and most likely do) have an eye for detail as they are responsible for impromptu investigations and such. As a police officer she had to identify evidence, probable cause, suspects, etc.., but could not tell a different apartment? Such a blunder causes me to question her abilities.

The deceased's brother must be a man of forgiveness and sympathy for allowing the woman to embrace him. I know I wouldn't take kindly to it.
