I'm 64, when I first heard Ford was releasing the EB for their truck line years ago I couldn't believe how Ford could make such a horrendous decision. I'm not ashamed to admit I was wrong. My DD Platinum Expedition preformed flawlessly (and delivered more torque at 2000 rpm than the 5.4 Expedition it replaced made max) before I traded it for my 19 loaded Raptor which has also been flawless. 95% of the negative comments are from asshats and V8 bigots who have never owned and driven one. "A lot of preventative maintenance"? No, it needs routine oil and filter changes, there's no magic there. Not only does the EB deliver more HP and torque than its V8 counterparts, it's torque curve is diesel-like And that's what really important in a truck. If I had a choice in the current V8 being available or an EB, I would choose the EB 100% of the time. If (IF) a blown V8 would ever be offered as an option in a Raptor I'd buy it only provided a EB with similar power was not an option. And this comes from an old guy who has owned dozens of (real) Shelbys, Boss cars, Panteras, CJ cars, Vipers, F series trucks, Broncos, Rangers, Expeditions, and Explorers....

Well Ive driven all of them and still prefer my V8 power so I guess Im an Asshat V8 Bigot. Toyota is V8 only, Nissan is V8 only and GM cant give their V6/V4 trucks away and the demand for the 6.2 is so great they had to expand the trims that could get it.

Must be a pretty young 64 or from Berkeley to call someone a bigot over their engine preference.

CNN much?

Its like Gas Vs Diesel. We all got preferences and everyone is right :D

It’s exactly like that. In the end most people just defend what they spent their money on. People buy what they have for different reasons so there is no wrong answer, it’s just funny when they get all fired up about it.

The ecoboom guys get all worked up over some little trolling. I love it when they tell me they made the better choice. Ive gotten my ass handed to me multiple times by 3.5 trucks. Im just a simple V8 guy is all

Some people just don't like their trucks sounding like a used craigslist microwave at WOT. Some people don't care. Preferences bruh.

I had a flowmaster on a V6/5spd Chevy truck and a glasspack on a V6/5spd mustang. The truck sounded like shit and the mustang sounded ok at lower rpms

Well when you get a Crankshaft Position Sensor code on your 3.5 get ready to fork out $3k for a new timing set. Majority of the repairs from a crankshaft code result in a new timing chain set unless Ford focused on fixing that issue on the newest generation 3.5EB.

Of the current body style, no. Of the last one, yes. I was not particularly impressed. It was ok, but nothing stellar. What I cannot get past is the sound. It's an ok motor for an Explorer or a Taurus, but not a full sized truck.
What makes it "not ok" for a truck? Purely the lack of gurgle from the rearend?

470-510 lb-ft of torque ain't too shabby out of 3.5 liters. Especially considering the beloved 7.3 PS of 2003 was rated at 525.

I was astonished at the difference between my old 5.4 Triton and new-to-me 3.5 EcoJunk.

No doubt there are many older people driving an $80k vehicle making big payments.

I've learned to never make assumptions about a persons financial status or ability to walk into a dealership and simply write an $80k check.

I seem to have hit a nerve with my post, I'm not mad or pissed off at all, quite the contrary. If someone has driven and compared power plants and prefers one over the other, that's their choice, that's their right and I honestly don't care. I also think it's fair to say that many who condem the EB have never driven one yet they are quick to post negative comments. Initially I never thought the EB could ever work in a truck platform, but after 100k miles on 2 vehicles, my opinion has changed...

Well you keep on doing you Pops. I still stand by what I said that 80K for a V6 truck is ridiculous and thats 80K out my retirement that I can put into something that wont depreciate.
