I've seen many people post about electronics so I'm assuming there is some knowledge of the subject on this board. I don't really need a new TV, but oh my have the prices gotten attractive in the 70"+ range.

Best Buy has several 70" in the $700 range and 75" around $900. But they also have TVs, in the same size, from the same manufacturer, that are easily more than double the price. I am failing to understand what is different about the technology. They are all advertised as 4K UHD smart whatevers.

I stream most of my stuff. The smart TV features and super ultra high definition stuff is probably overkill for me. I just want a badass big TV I can count on for the next 7-8 years.

I understand you get what you pay for but I am seeking value as well. To make it worse, not many places have the 70"+ TVs on display. Atleast not more than a few.

Just a tip best prices on TVs are usually last week of October first week of November and go up drastically for the "Black Friday" sales.

The more expensive ones are usually OLED and QLED which are the next step after LED. OLED has true blacks and therefor makes the colors pop. It is what most phones use now a days for screens. QLEDs have added colors and if you have kids that watch a lot of kids shows then these look great. Also about $1K less than OLED.

My favorite UHD LED TVs are LG. Great picture, inexpensive, and great SmartTV features. We have two over 60". I also have a 75" Samsung QLED and love love love it. Budget would not allow for a 75" OLED.

I dont have too much knowledge on the subject but I always say stick with the big names and spend the most you are willing to spend when it comes to electronics.

I do know its very easy to get carried away with all the specs and differences, especially when you see them in store but any new 4k TV will look awesome in your house as long as the signal you are using matches.

That's my hanging point. I really don't have the internet speed or set top device to take advantage of 4K , let alone all these other features.

What does bug me is motion blur. It is barely noticeable on my $400 55" LED, but I would imagine the bigger the picture the more obvious it becomes.

I have an 11 year old Sharp 52" LCD I'm waiting to fail, paid $ 1475.48 in Oct. 2008. Because of space limitations, I can't go larger than 55", I have decided on an OLED.
In the Nov. 2019 Consumer Reports, their # 4 pick was an LG ( OLED55C9PUA ) which they listed @ $ 1800.00. I have read several reviews & this model is the top of the heap in a 55". Searching the mfg.'s model # this morning I was able to find one listed for $ 1296.00........I will continue to track this item, & will own one soon.
For those looking for a larger set, CR lists several 65" models.
......( top 5 in the order they listed them )
Sony ( XBR-65AG9 ) $ 3800.00
LG ( OLED65C9PUA ) $ 2800.00
Sony ( XBR-65A8G ) $ 3500.00
LG ( OLED65E9PUA ) $ 3800.00
LG ( OLED65C9AUA ) $ 2750.00...............Both of the Sony's are OLED..

I guess I could have reworded the title to budget big TV lol. I'm limiting myself to $1000 or under.

I've learned my lesson on electronics a long time ago. Things move so fast, I have regretted many of my high dollar purchases. Not to mention had issues out of warranty that didn't make financial sense to repair.

Ok, to completely derail this post, is anyone considering a projector instead ?

I have read that projector technology has make great leaps in the past 5 years.

For me, the issue has always been that you have no real idea of true picture quality until you get that whole thing setup at your house. Every layout is going to be different.

I’ve noticed Black Friday super cheap deals are on sets from off brands or old TVs no one buys. The TVs that only last 2 or 3 years that lack quality. Maybe I’m wrong.

I’ve had this 75” LED 4K Sony for a few years. Love it. Couldn’t tell you model numbers or anything. But I’ve never really had any problems or complaints.

If you dig around you can find 55" LG OLED's for <$1000.
