I have a “check trac control” message on my dash in my 2008 Gt500, and the traction control button does nothing when I press it, it’s light up and permanently off.... does anybody know what could be causing this? I’ve heard and read so many thing from brake fluid being low and sensor acting up, to all types of stuff including a tune being uploaded in the car could cause this to happen if done incorrectly or something..... I don’t know we’re totally stumped. I bought the car and he gave me his username for this forum from the previous owner so I figured I’d ask. Any help is appreciated. Thank you. If there is a thread on this issue already can somebody please post the link? Thanks again.

With just traction control off, I will get the advance track light to flash if I’m spinning in third and the car is getting sideways too far. It seems to pull it back in line.

I know of one person (well known Mustang performance shop owner) who told me that no matter what you do, Stability Control is always lurking in the background and the only way to kill it is to put different ABS senors in that the SC can't talk to. I would think this might throw a code like you are seeing. Just a guess.

FWIW I run mine in Sport Mode on the track (road course). It is now chewing up the rear pads, so I don't think it is engaging much. It has only engaged once that I noticed, and that was after I recovered from a little power oversteer on corner exit. It felt like an anchor tossed out hooked to the left rear corner.

Check your "Ground 101"

If that doesn't do it (it probably will) then it may be that your ABS sensor is bad. I doubt that, but if the ground 101 isn't it then that would be my next step.

Check the following:

BEC (engine bay)
Fuse F8 - ABS Module
Fuse F65 - ABS Module

SJB (passenger kick panel)
Fuse F18 - ABS Module

- Improper ground (as stated above)
- Low battery/alternator voltage
- Faulty wheel speed sensor (unlikely)

Recent experience with this issue tells me its your alternator going south. Not providing the ECM with correct voltage. What you describe is the first evidence that the voltage regulator is going out. Went with Nation Alt. It was a pain to install but so far no issues.

So I checked the ground 101 which I’ve done in the past because these cars are like Christmas lights. That wasn’t it. I changed the brake fluid drained it completely, that wasn’t it.... I have a new sensor on the way. Also, somebody was commenting like this was a good thing.... no this is not normal and not a good thing. Cars not a road course car either.

Don’t think that’s it....Alternator was replaced recently....like less than 5000 miles ago.

Also, a moderator added a link to my original post... I already read that post and it didn’t help. It seems like some of those guys are talking about newer gt500’s or newer mustangs. But it randomly came on one day, my car is stock motor with full bolt ons including a KB 2.8lc with all supporting mods making 765whp on 93 octane pump gas. I had my original tune put back in the car recently after a local shop lost it when they thought for some reason my car needed a new tune, when really it needed something else, I think they were trying to get over on me or just are slacking with their quality lately, I’m not going to say any names but it’s a shop you all know. Either way irrelevant, I got my money back and since they lost my tune I had to get my tune that was originally on the car before I brought it to them and had it uploaded into the car. Around that time is when I saw this “check trac control” message on my message board and the traction control was permanently lit up and “off” from there on out. But it didn’t Happen right away after the old tune was re flashed into the car.
