Can anyone identify this noise?

I can feel this when turning my wheel around 10 O’clock. as well as hear it from inside the cab. When I try and listen from under the car or the engine bay I can’t make much out since the cobra is so loud.

I assume it’s the power steering pump or rack, but not sure which. I did a full high volume flush with new ford ATF which didn’t fix it and then filled it with Royal Purple ATF, still no luck.

anyone have any idea here??

I unhooked the cranks sensor and attached a tube to the return line from the pump then cranked it while keeping the tank full of new ATF. The return line was routed into a milk jug. I basically kept putting fluid through until I got a clean cherry red color.

When I added the RP, I just used a baster and removed what I could, added RP and let the car run for bit to mix, then removed more and added more RP. No noticeable improvement.

This car only has 6" front tires so it's not a ton of grip on the front, and its weird that its only really noticeable at the 10 O'clock position, maybe a slightly at 2. The wheel also feels really gritty and rough at that spot. Makes me think it's not the pump and more of the rack, but that's just an uneducated thought.

Does the wheel turn smooth when the engine isn't running? What about with the engine running and no load on the front tires?

With the engine off, put some belt dressing on the belt. Just a guess.

I just put a new RPM belt on it, no change. I'm wondering if It's not some kind a damaged clock spring. I can't recall the last time I tried the cruise control....

The power steering runs off the inner belt. Swapping the blower belt won't affect it.

Jack the front of the car up and turn lock to lock a few times. This is how I bled my PS system after swapping to Moroso tanks.

Are you running a Moroso tank? I have heard of people having air pockets trapped with these, not sure if it is the vent in the caps or what causes them.

OK, I finally figured it out!

The U-joint on the steering shaft was making contact with my LT headers. I spent about 3 minutes adjusting the outside of the u joint with Dremel and sanding drum and now no more grind.
