Nothing against either of you personally, but this is why I haven't been to SEMA the last few years. It's packed with people who have no business there, taking up space and making it hard to do business. I'm hoping some day they require a photo ID matching badge to get in, like the autoshows. I know it's a bucket list show for car guys (and I understand wanting to go), but it's a tradeshow first.

Looking forward to PRI though. Less crowded, but Indy in winter sucks. Needs to be moved back to Orlando.

That's why our company doesn't even do a booth. We just go and talk business privately in board rooms/meetings. Ends up being much more productive than handing out pens and talking to random guys that have no real use in our B2B relationships

And I totally understand and respect what you're saying. The past few years it has been absolutely insane with how busy it is. Used to be Tuesday and Wednesday was packed, Thursday less crowded, and Friday you owned the place. Now all four days are mobbed.

i remember going during the recession in 07-08 and it was a ghost town all four days.

I do try to actually not yank anyone’s chain or bullshit them, I just keep walking, take some pics, grab some brochures, enjoy the sights and try to see as much as I can.

I think we were walking last year about 8-9 miles a day. Help balance out the double doubles from In N Out.

It’s the mecca of awesome cars all in one place, a social gathering for everything automotive, it’s all in our blood, I personally think it’s my favorite place to visit. Literally my bucket list. It’s not for business, it’s to have fun.

Let me know if you need anything while you're in Indy. Glad to help if I'm able. I've got a buddy across the street, usually with some cool cars in his shop he's working on, albeit they're usually GM or Mopar. "Shop" cars are a 350, ZR1, Raptor, and a 1200 HP C5Z.

Not to mention the garage fridge usually is stocked well!

At the same time, no vendor worthy of being in the business would turn down having interested eyes looking at their product. I bet the sales generated are why they don't cracka lacka harder on regular Joes coming in.

agreed, the few companies that I have connections to use SEMA as a social media launch or advertising campaign. And it shows if you equate it back to marketing dollars vs views over the interwebs. The resources and cost pay for themselves especially if you have something new or you’re established and have a unit / product that’s highly anticipated.

The big reason they are lax with entries is having bigger numbers allows them to charge more for a booth space. SEMA is a big organization, and it does a ton of really good work for the industry/hobby behind the scenes.

Agree with that also.

I've had a ticket for the past 5 years, but have never gone. Fighting crowds and Vegas in general is just not worth it to me.

I would MUCH rather go to PRI. I have a friend who’s done a few sema builds the last few years and it just seems like an absolute cluster **** at sema.

My brother and I flew knowing we didn’t have tickets. We learned a few things. CL has sellers, meet in person near the event in public, do not send PayPal or Venmo unless you receive tickets first. Sema does not check the authenticity of the tickets that are hanging from your neck in a lanyard. Our names were Japanese yet we look American.
