Did you ever have a hobby that harmed/ruined a relationship?

When I mean harm or ruined, I mean that you put too much focus/time and/or too much money in the hobby without realizing you have been neglecting her.

Admittedly, I discovered this was a problem the hard way. I spent way too much money and time competing in time attacks/hpdes and modifying my Mustang that I sort of lost sight of her and she no longer felt like a priority and then it ended. I was putting my time, money and energy in the wrong places.

I got my wife involved in all my stuff lol. Shooting guns, going to the lake, teaching her about cars. She doesn't ride motorcycles though, and I'm glad. It is hard finding a balance.

What ruined my last relationship was getting her into everything I liked. That meant I had absolutely no time to myself cause she wanted to be apart of everything I did.

yep. You can't do EVERYTHING together. But you can't completely barge them out lol. Gotta have time with the boys. It's a tough balance.

I bet most of us here pray for ladies nights. My ex wife was national guard. Since she was an officer, she had to go to a unit that had an officer opening. There was nothing local so she had to travel one weekend a month. I miss having that weekend a month.

One of the criteria I required in selecting my spouse is that she be cool with me doing what I want to do with out the “You should be spending time with me” extortion game. This means she can do what she wants, without me whining about too.

I’d bail in a heartbeat, if I had to hear my soulmate whine about that shit.

Providing I’m not banging some other chick, were good.

I did; however, in a moment of weakness spend more time with my guns than my cars. We went through group therapy and had a break through when my cars realized that they took us to the range, so it was a family event.

Lol....just purchased my 60th car/truck last week with more to come. My wife of 36 years never liked my car obsession hobby but she did not run away either. Soon I will be living near the car show mecca of OC MD and will want even more cars. That is why I am building a 3 car garage in my new home....lol.

Mine screw up was ATV's and guns in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. Virtually no weekends at home. She was always invited, but often declined. We had a second home, she seldom visited and access to a condo and boat my parents had. Now living on the other end of the spectrum. This one goes everyevery with me and it has lasted twice as long! 22 years!

Women view hobbies as a man being selfish. Every hobby will cause relationship problems.

Yup, if I spend too much time or money on any of my hobbies, the wife gets pissy. This includes cars and car events, guns, hunting, BJJ or boating.

The one that she can deal with is boating since she enjoys time on the water but she complains if the water is too rough or I go above 35 mph.

It's a balance.

Sometimes mine wants me to give her space so she can watch her girl shows or do whatever, so I go and play PC games, Xbox, work on the cars, do whatever.

If she wants to spend time with me, and she makes it known, I opt 95% of the time with her. And if she doesn't, and I can see it on her face, then I set my hobby aside to be with her instead.

I treat hobby's as an optional recreation. I don't have to do any of it unless I really want too.

No doubt. I tell my wife she needs to hang out with her friends more and find a hobby. That way she can't complain so much when I go to car cruises on Thursday nights with the guys.

My lady is actively into video games. Its a social thing with her sister and here aunt. Kinda cool actually. Gives me the freedom to do the car thing, and my own gaming and gun thing too. Im very, VERY thankful she has a hobby that she's into.

Whats cool is that she's into me having a car thing. What sealed the deal for me was around the 3rd week of us dating, she went with me to the dragstrip. Helped me change every one of the street tires to my drag setup and back at the end of the night.

Somehow we make it work, but I find I have a lot more freedom (no gripes or complaining) than most.
