Better Handling

I have about 20,000 on the clock now. Only mods are 2.4 upper, jlt CAI, cooler sparks, VMP 69mm throttle body, lethal 3” off road h pipe, MGW gen 2 short throw shifter and lund custom tune. It is now running stronger and Im starting to notice some handling week points. It seems like it is a bit loose/unstable from 80-130mph. It doesnt inspire confidence at high speeds like it should. I know you can spend a ton on braking and handling components (sometimes at great expensive without the desired results). I have zero desire to track the car. I just want it to feel more stable and planted when I drive it hard. Looking for ideas on what the first good steps towards a better handling package would be without breaking the bank. I dont mind spending a bit, just dont want to waste money to experiment. Would much rather hear which proven and good value upgrades are available that you guys have used before and recommend. Thanks for any and all advice.

The Maximum Motorsports Road and Track grip box might be right up your alley. If you have the adjustable Bilsteins you could skip the dampers. The folks there are right helpful, and in my experience, won't try to over sell you.

What tires and how many miles on the tires? Worn tires will make the car feel unstable at higher speeds.

Thanks. I will look into them.

Fronts are almost new. The rear drag radials go away about every 3,000 miles it seems.
Sounds like a tire issue. Get that fixed 1st then try it again and go from there. The 13/14 had some really nice upgrades compared to the 07-12 gt500s.

As much as i enjoy the added improvements of all the aftermarket suspension i have done to my gt500. It adds alot of NVH.

Handling and drag radials don't exactly compliment one another.
In general i do agree with this. Im curious how the G2's work with the 555R because of the very different tread patterns between the 2. Compared the the regular 555 in the front

Check all your suspension components for wear, id start with relo brackets and some good lower control arms... maximum motorsports /bmr , plenty to choose from. Just consider when you use poly or spherical bearings on the arms NVH will increase, as will straight line acceleration and corner grip ;-)

Suspension work is not what you need. The feeling you are having is the rubber. Have seen more than one post about how the 555s feel at higher speeds. Its a trade off right? Running drag radials is better hook up down low but not really designed to compare with say Michelin Pilot Super Sport. I run PSS and can testify have never felt unstable above 130.

not really about the tread pattern, more so the soft compound of the drag radial which equates to a very soft sidewall. Tread patterns do not in themselves really affect the handling. Maybe Im wrong

A good street tire up front, and a ToyoR888 <--(harder compound/roadcorse) outback. All the perks of a drag radial on the street but won't put me into a guard rail when rain shows up unexpectedly. Straight line performance is really good.

Yeah I think you guys are right. Even though it hooks up so much better with the drag radials, it did handle better before. Love the acceleration of the Nitto’s but I think I will try the Toyo R888 this time around in the rear. I still am gonna slowly go forward with suspension mods as well.

I put the BMR suspension parts and Eibach springs on before changing from the Goodyears and noticed a huge improvement in the handling. The car with stock rubber and suspension was scary.
After the suspension changes, I went with the Toyo 888's and again was impressed greatly with the improved control and traction.
I need to get the Goodyears off the front, just over 5K miles on the car, but tires are getting old.

Tires should always be the first thing to consider. Aside from that, I recommend a panhard bar because that controls the rear end side to side movement which gives it the "boaty" feeling. Start with that first and then move on to other areas.

It was primarily the tires. I replaced the rear NT555R drag radial’s with NT555G2’s to match the front. It doesnt hook like it did before, but handles like a dream. I can run it hard and feels pretty planted unless I get in the gas to much.
