I think the age of these YouTube and other Social Media “influencers” or “stars” is going to come crashing down epically for the majority of them. I think what has happened with him is on the lighter side of what we will see.

Like mistletoe, I’m hung where you will see.

I agree. SMI will be a tough to have consistent revenue for 20/30 years.

highly doubt it.

social media is growing... not slowing. Everybody thought when MySpace went downhill it would be the end. Nope

twitter came, Facebook, Snapchat, tik Tok, YouTube.. etc

people are signing guaranteed multi year deals for content creation in the 10s of millions of dollars range. Just to post their content on one specific site

couple that with our reactionary culture we live in.. social media THRIVES on reactionary culture.

take Dan Bilzerian for instance ( people can hate him all they want ) he has 29.5 MILLION people following him. His last picture had 1.5 million likes on it. Which means even though it’s a split second.. 1.5 million people used their thumb to stop- look- double tap just from a picture.

or YouTube for instance. Pewdiepie .. has 102 million subscribers. The population Of the world is what 7 billion or so.

so imagine you have a movie theatre of people around the world. 1 person essentially in that theatre are subscribed to him. Companies realize that.

Companies realize if he says “ Drink Coca Cola or pick your brand ) 1 in 75 people around the world could see “ drink Coca Cola “

Its not going to slow down any time soon.

Most are crap including your example. They are not(for the most part creating businesses or jobs) adding to the economics or the betterment of society.

They will have a hard time creating new content which keeps people coming back month after month.
Put $200k down on they latest car and sure you’ll get a million views. If that’s all you have why will people keep watching month after month let alone if 5 to 10 years?

Like Hollywood and like athletes many will be doing other things a bankrupt in 10 years.

pewdiepie has been on YouTube a decade.

And again.. as much as YOU hate him. 1 in 75 people in the world are subscribed to him.

also yes you tubers create jobs. YouTubers such as Linus Tech Tips have over 20 employees.

same with other YouTubers who have merchandise brands.. those have employees, they help the economics of wherever they pay taxes.. they give people jobs. Etc

it’s obvious you have a hate for content creators. But your jaded view on them is completely incorrect.

hell think about the YouTubers who become famous singers.. they have managers.. People that help them on tours.. etc. think about these huge acts such as Pentatonix.. who sell out stadiums, how much money they help areas bring in just by showing up.

Your logic seems a little misguided.

Theyre advertisers.

If someone has 100M followers, and they allow a company to advertise on their page, which bring the company orders, which they need to hire employees to fulfill, is that not providing a net benefit to society?

As for new content, if you look at the top 15 youtube channels, only one is younger than 6 years old. Many are almost 15 years old. They have figured out a way to continue to grow their channels (some are growing even faster now than ever) for a lot of years.

If I was in a position to make $400,000-$10M per year making youtube videos, I would be all over it.

That’s Great. Will they be doing this 20 to 30 years from now? My guess would be no.

Yes many people have gone broke even after making $20-40 mill a year.

Who gives a shit if they are doing this in 20-30 years, they will probably be well retired by that time. That's like 10x the median length of a career for younger generations. The amount of people doing what they are doing now in 20-30 years will be extremely low.

It's like youre trying to suggest it's a bad thing to make 10x-150x the national income average, making videos of something youre passionate about lol.

Not saying it’s bad. Just said I don’t see it as being something that can last until retirement.

if they think they can make $50-100k a month after this dies or google changes ad revenue there will be a lot of sad you tubers. Hopefully they are smart enough to bank some.

I don't see it dying any time soon, and yeah, just like literally any profession, from a server to a CEO, your position is never secure and you should have a back up plan.

I have a 3.5 yo and a just over 2 yo. they watch a lot of children content on YT. Go take a look at how many super super successful channels there are of kids content. all these videos have millions and millions of views. Many are multi million dollar companies and only a few years old. I think its more content specific that determines its success. These kids videos have staying power as there are millions of kids to entertain. they watch these over and over and over. Some will fail sure. just like everything else. One example is sesame street. 12.1 million subscribers. and they have been around a long time. why should we think they will not last? or that another cannot last? as long as they continue to produce content that will keep people watching, they will succeed.
