The wife and I are discussing getting her a commuter car. It needs to get around 25 mpg and be able to fit a rear facing infant seat. Would like to stay around a 10k budget. What do you recommend???

Gonna second the vote for Passat. You can get good deals on them everywhere, they have plenty of space and get decent mpg.
We had a 16 1.8t avg mpg was 34 and plenty of room the tdi buy backs get 46 or better and they usually r around the 10k price

Just get an Accord. They run forever. I've got a '11 Accord w/ V6. I usually get about 27mpg on the freeway. It's a great commuter. Built for families.
My 2013 Infiniti M37X fits the bill. Lots on the preowned market for sale.
+1 Fusion or Mercury Milan with 4 cylinder. Trunk was huge. Pic of MIL, she sold hers last spring. It was a reliable, very comfortable, great looking car.
