Put me in the camp that doesn't think you need to spend huge money on a suit. If you find something from Jos and get it fitted, youre going to look good enough for most situations.

I have 3 from Jos, one that fits me around 250, one that fits me around 210, and one sort of in between.

I yoyo my weight a lot lol.

Virtually the ONLY things that matter, at least in my opinion, are how well it fits, and quality of materials. I couldn't care less what the name on the inside is.

If you don't know how to tell if the fit is good, go to a tailor. The quality of materials is more of a personal opinion thing, I think.

A proper fitting suit is very important. Dont be one of these guys that just throws it on with pants that are too long and baggy and the jacket way too big. Also, accessories are just as important if not more. Really nice shoes with matching belt, nice shirt with nice tie, a nice watch....

If you wear a suit once a year, buy cheap.

If you are going to wear the suit regularly, buy quality.

Do however, buy a fitted shirt, dress belt, nice tie and dress shoes.

I've spent a couple hundred and a couple thousand on suits and your money is better spent finding a good tailor for not only the suit but the shirt. While you're there do yourself a favor and get some of your normal clothes tailored as well. FYI, there are a lot of awful tailors out there so do some research.

Get your accessories right too and for the love of god get a dress watch. I love mixing and matching watches that don't fit the occasion but it's harder to do with suits.

These asshat national media anchors and late night talk show hosts that wear suits every day on TV...how much do you reckon a typical suit in their wardrobe costs? Just curious.

for the most part they have all their suits given or loaned to them. You will see a wardrobe credit for their clothes.

I go on eBay and buy high end suit for cheap affordable prices. Fully canvassed to a half canvassed non fused suit is what you want if you like quality...

bad suit is like a Raptor with a 2.3L engine
Good suit is like a raptor with a 6.2L engine

brands I recommend
Isaia
Zegna
Hickey Freeman
Canali
Brioni
Kiton

I like also Joseph abboud

get suit tailored and tell the tailor you want to look like James Bond

remember the man makes the suit not the suit makes the man...or does it?

Here is your best advice, don't worry about name brands and costs. Get bigger pants/jacket and shirt and have them custom tailored. The look of a suit is all about the fit. A well fitting cheap suit to your body, will look way better than an expensive one that does not fit. A well tailored suit can make your shape look better too.

Here's a question for the more refined folks; belt or suspenders? If your jacket is buttoned up is one thing, but what if you are going "casual" without it buttoned where you could see them? All I know is clip on suspenders are about as classy as clip on ties.

Also to add some advice don't forget to polish your shoes.

I went to a Dillards dept. store sale yesterday and bought two Hart Schaffner Marxs suits, one black, one Navy, $121.00 each. I took them to be fitted, and by making everything just right it was $183.00. Now I have two new, decent quality, well fitting suits that are appropriate for just about any occasion for $204.00 each.
I just couldn't pass it up.

Every man should have a custom tailored suit...and one can be had for nearly any budget...and dont skimp on the shirts...and for christ's sake iron them well before ya wear them.

At my dads funeral my buddie showed up with a fresh shirt right out the package 5 mins prior to him putting in on lol...I still give him shit about that

I spent like 600ish on mine but now Im fat and need to get another one done
