Are tou building it, or having a shop do it?

Lets be honest... Do you at all give a shit?

The Shelby will go to the shop for most of its work.
The Lightning will be a home project. I'm considerably more familiar with the 351W.
The Bagger I do my own work.
The Sportster I do my own work.
The 2019 F150 I take to the dealership since I have a warranty.
The 2017 Focus I'll Run till it explodes and buy another.

Any other questions completely irrelevant to the Post Topic?

So then find a shop, hand them the keys and money and let them handle the parts selection and work.

Nothing worse than when an "expert" like yourself comes into a shop with a truck load of parts and says: "random dudes on the internet told me to have you build this and $xxx is how much they said it will cost"

So instead if creating several independent threads lately, you should have created a single thread looking for recommendations on a shop.

I have a shop, and a game plan, and a Quote for the current stage of the build. I never said I was showing up with a truck load of parts, nor did i claim to be an expert.

I asked a couple questions while in the brainstorming phase of the NEXT STAGE of the project... Instead of some constructive input, you joined the Mob attacking my Financial ability and Skill to accomplish said goals.

you could of just said "Worst Case, A New short block would run you $13,699.00. here's a link to one of the shops I'd Recommend Calling."

5.8L ALUMINUM SHORT BLOCK (LM354S)

Instead you wanna get into a pissing contest at midnight on a Wednesday lol. I mean that's fine. I'm game. I'm getting paid handsomely to type this out.

This is sound advice. It's actually some of the best advice on this site. If you are going to pay someone to do the work they need to do all of it including suggesting what parts you need to put on the car. Also by letting one shop handle everything they won't be able to point the finger at someone else if something is not right.

Also OP you did not ask but PSA if you are talking about a big boy build you better budget for return fuel system, rear end/axles, suspension and drag wheel wheel set up. 1000k WHP is pointless without these. Plan on $15k to $20k.

$15-20k additional!

I agree, pay a shop that knows the recipe needed and pick the car up when done.
I’d say all in this is gonna be a 50-70k deal with labor to run a number like that of the car is going from stock to 8’s and +1kwhp

Correct I’m asking specifically just the cost to replace Rods, Pistons, Rings, Bearings. Bottom end hardware.

That’s it. Doing this in stages. Everyone’s hyper focused on the end goalie 8.8 1/4. Mixing threads. I’m asking for the next stage in this build.

Where ever she lands time wise once I do the rods and pistons is where she lands. I’m not going to dig into the Trans and Rear if I don’t have to. And going 8s is going to require that.

Your inputs been great don’t take it the wrong way. I very much appreciate it.

I always love sending my car to a shop not knowing how much Im going to spend.

Makes perfect financial sense.
I will make one suggestion having been there and done what you are contemplating (building a 2013 GT 500 from scratch). I would use someone with extensive experience with building the 5.8 engines for competition use. There are many great builders out there that do outstanding work that costs $150/hour to get work done. I used JDM Engineering because at the time they had a Cobra Jet that they sponsored, a racer named Don Freeze had run in the 8.30 range. Which was close to the world record back in 2015. I talked to Don personally and he took the time to answer all of my questions about JDM Engineering and their involvement with their race car. Both he and Jim Jr. told me at the time they had not lost a motor that Matt Kennedy had built for them. I trusted both Jim and Don's advice and had JDM build my complete motor and I drove it from Pittsburgh to Freehold to have Jim Sr. personally dyno tune the motor. Jim told me I would have 800RWHP when it was all said and done with the stock fuel system, and the car actually made 806RWHP. Bottom line is that you have to choose someone that you can communicate with and understands your goals for your car. And be there for you when questions arise or issues occur. Running 8.8 second quarter miles times with one of these cars is not unheard of but it will take more than just a motor to get you there. Transmission, rear end, suspension, tires, and your own God given ability to actually pilot a machine into the 8's will be key factors in your success. I purposely did not answer your question on the cost to build a short block as there are too many variable costs to consider. For instance $400 for a Cobra Jet crank vs. $5,000 for a Bryant Billet crank etc. Hope this helps.

Jim's a great guy. He wrote my tunes for both the Cobra and the Shelby and he spent tons of hours with me through email and phone just talking to me, explaining the tune, tuning with SCT Pro Racer package, adding, subtracting, changing the tune, mods to the car, etc. His time was invaluable and both cars drive like stock and make great power.

Ya want my personal advise? Steer clear of L & M and go to a true Mod Motor engine builder such as BES Race Engines, Accufab or MPR. To build a true 1000RWHP or higher engine, plan on spending a ton of money for a reputable engine builder to build you something that will survive. Look up a thread Resurrection of The Accuser to find out what I'm talking about. The car is out at HAP for Tin Soldiers Race Cars to install a NHRA 25.3 certified cage with functional A/C and Heat for the ultimate street car that will be safe to run at the Texas Mile without safety concerns limiting the speed capabilities of the car.

The car did 940RWHP on pump 93, 1050 on pump E85 and 1106 on VP Racing C85 with a 4.0" pulley up top with a stock ATI lower with less than 20 psi of boost at 7400RPM.

Evolution and L & M got me on the first engine build..........so I think I can give you advise to steer clear of those companies.

A true engine builder won't pull the engine from the car. You need to find a reputable shop with experience in these cars to do the R & R of the engine for you. My first recommendation for this is HAP in Evansville IN......Hargett Automotive & Performance as long as you don't cause a delay in the completion of my car : ) LOL
