My vote? Sell it.

And for what its worth, if you're having a hard time tracking down an original throttle return spring, you can buy a generic spring from any Lowes, Home Depot, etc.. that will work totally fine. Probably cost less than what shipping would be for an original anyway.

Yes it can only be repainted at a Ford dealer and it must have a Mystic VIN. They have to order the paint special and its a controlled item. Any leftover it gets sent back to a disposal location. Why I'd never own one as much as I'd like to.

this is no longer true for the original mystic car anyway. A friend just bought one locally in bad shape and was able to get the paint himself without knowing anyone/pulling any strings. The paint is still spendy in comparison to others but it's available

Not true anymore. I had a front bumper and spoiler painted three years ago and we ordered the paint and it was delivered to the shop no problem. I also kept the leftover paint.

Mystic cobras are so bad ass. No way I'd paint it mystichrome, or any other color for that matter.

Although the "ford only" re-paint deal definitely causes some problems.

I definitely wouldn't paint it Mystichrome. And this is coming from a Mystichrome owner. I don't think it would pop as well on the SN95 body.

is that still an issue in this day and age? I thought some people have got the paint without having a car.

On the Mystic Owner's Group Facebook Page there is a group of owners getting together to source the paint. They've made contact with someone at BASF who is able to get the original formula.

They are making "kits" that will give you everything you need for a full respray down to individual parts.

If this is truly an important car to you, investing in returning it to it's stock color would be a pretty neat thing to do. That said, there are other Mystics for sale with low miles and great paint already that could come close to the cost of what you'd be spending to paint yours. You'll have to weigh those options.

Hi, can you provide me with the information to order that paint? I have a 96 Mystic Cobra, while it was stored in a garage, something fell on the windshield and rolled down the hood leaving some scars.

Any paint shop can get it nowadays. Basf is who had the original formula but ppg has it too.
