I think the point has been made that you can either turn them back on, or trick them to not flag a fail code.
People have been doing this since obd2 was invented. it’s really not that big a deal.
However unless you are making some real steam, there is no need to remove cats. I don’t run cats on any of my boosted cars that are modded.
It’s not for everyone though. ESP for people that don’t know how or like to work on their cars. Paying someone to swap your pipe yearly I can imagine sucks.
Exactly. Unless you are probably running 850+ whp, the factory cats should hold up for quite awhile and do fine. Big hp monsters will go through any cats quickly.

some of the bigger tuners will tell you they suggest removing cats once in the 600’s+
We all heard of someone who made 1kwhp through a stock exhaust and we have heard of someone melting their car down or blowing an engine from clogged cats as well.
Take all this with a grain of salt.
Personally I would never do hot WOT pulls in high gear on the highway with any decent HP and cats

Had Kooks high flow cats on my 2011, they threw codes.
@ the time, my tuner just turned off the 02's, which no one will do now.
When it came time for inspection, went with Kooks " green " cats, & the 02's were turned back on. The issue with inspections is ( at least in N.J. ) when they plug into the 0BDII port, all the systems have to report " ready ", no cats won't do that.
Good luck..

Im just curious, was their a noticable difference with the high-flow cat(in your case, the green cats) vs the factory. Just trying to see if the extra power will be worth the potential hassle. thanks for the input.

No cats,............not passing inspection in MA.
They are tough on emissions here.

I've talked to many "Experts" and I keep hearing two sides to the story. Exactly why I'm asking on here. Looks like some people know inspectors that are getting it done for them. I'm leaning towards a high flow cat at this point or just leave the factory cats to avoid the hassle.

I passed in MA many years with my old cobras without cats. I didn't care about the ready code since MA allows one sensor to be not ready, which was my cats. However, that could trigger a visual which would fail, unless you go to a friendly place or run high flow cats.

I have AMR Hi-Flo Cats and no issue with NY Emissions. My buddy had his '08 Cats hogged out shortly after some performance mods which the shop thought might require a tune adjustment. It sounded louder, required no adjustments and made no additional HP.

Thats the second part of my question. It sounds like the factory cats on the car are already hi flow. thanks for the input man.

I haven't had my car on the road in a few years (should have it back this month sometime) but when I brought my DD in for a sticker I asked him about no cats on my Cobra. My sticker guy (knows my car) told me no cats is not going to be a problem, as long as the light is off.
Where are you in MA?

15 min from Boston. My tuner suggested possibly needing 02 defoulers but wasn’t certain if I would need them or not.

I expect the car to be close to 700whp for now. I was thinking the cats should hold up fine at this Power level.

I’d be pretty surprised if they didn’t. Considering every car they show has a free flowing exhaust. Lol
Hmmmmm,..........that's weird??? I could have sworn that I read on their website that they do not turn the 02 sensors off??
FL is one of those tough emissions states.

My guy, whom is also a personal friend, has to take photos of the car. Front/back/side and underneath as well as take a 'selfie" to show the car is running properly. He showed me the whole checklist that he has to go through for every inspection.
If it were me, I would just go with a high flow cat and be done with it. Good luck!

Also now remember that there are now video cameras in the Massachusetts inspection stations. "someone" does actually selectively watch, and could potentially reprimand the station. I am very friendly with my station, and they are telling me this. Things changed big time in 2019.

Wow, I had no idea places were doing this!

02 non foulers on the rear sensors... no cats and no lights on dash and tuned for the last 15 yrs on my old girl and she passes no problems in mass ...also no front plate because I won’t drill into a mint bumper
Knock on wood no problems for 19 yrs

See! Proof it’s not all that hard to get by. People been doing this shit for decades. This isn’t anything new.

The high flow cats threw codes.
Factory cats weren't an option, have Kooks LT's, they wouldn't bolt up.
The green cats allowed the 02's to be turned back on. All this was on my 2011.
When my 14 was modded, went with LT's & " green " cats right away, no issues.
There are those that have a catted pipe for inspections & just change it out. The one thing that can't be hidden is the smell a no cat car has.

Unreal some states still do this of a stringent inspection, we dont live in the 70s anylonger.

I thought the idea of low emission vehicles, let's just say year 2010 and newer(compared to 70s/80s) was to emit lower pollution so these inspections would not have to be done.?

Well if people are taking the low emissions vehicles and ripping the cats out, they're no longer low emissions. I live in ma and decided it's not worth the chance of being hassled for running catless. That being said, defoulers on the o2s or MIL eliminators. I ran those back in the day on my contour with gutted precats.

Yup.
They have to take a photo of the front/rear of the car. Underneath the car and the doorjamb with the VIN. The speedometer as well. It's a serious over reach. Too much.
