As everyone else has said, good luck, myself like many others bought what they thought would be there dream terminator off SVTP, I probably had 50 people tell me what a clean and well taken care of car it was and I would love it, so I bought it sight unseen (my own fault). I paid the asking price and had it shipped to me. The car was a absolutely pile of shit (timesert in the cylinder head, timing cover leaking, diff leaking, alignment was messed up, check engine light on and the list goes on and on) my best advice, spend 3 to 4 hours looking the car over from top to bottom. If the current own isn't comfortable with that, than walk away. 80% of the 03/04 cobras that are for sale are beat to shit, the nice ones usually never go up for sale.

Just be smart and take your time, don't rush into something, or buy a GT500.

Living that dream bruh.

I'd suggest almost looking for the most clapped out cheapest Cobra you can find with the expectation of a complete rebuild /restoration. At least you'll know it was done right.

I paid 24k for a 7k mile cobra that was bone stock and still had some original plastic wrapping in the trunk 2.5 years ago. I sold it to a dealer last summer for 18.5k with 45k miles. They are out there just take your time, mine was absolutely rock solid until the day I was to sell it to go pick up my viper it, it almost overheated on the way to the bank. (the car knew! lol) turned out to be a rock broke the radiator fan, simple fix

OP, good luck on your hunt...

It's going to suck.

You'll soon find out that over 80% of all 03-04 cobras that you will come across will fall into at least one of these categories: have had more than four owners (with absolutely no prior knowledge of history about the damn car), frame damage, EXTREMELY overpriced, more than two car accidents, or alot of dumb looking exterior modifications.

I've been looking for over 3 years and came across a few contenders. The price is what always was the disconnect. I refuse to pay 22.5k for a less than mild bolt-on cobra that has over 82k miles on it.

Alot of private parties set their prices so damn high it aint even funny, man.

You'll find one, just stay positive.

If you handed me 21k I'd probably have to give you my 04 in these dire times. 55k just rolled over. Built bottom end garage queen. Screaming yellow vert.

Good luck OP. Been browsing and looking for one for almost 17 years to the day now lol. I like most know that a good chunk are beaten, modded and most certainly had/have an alternator issue (pun intended). The right car is out there, if you can't see it in person hire a local inspector to check it out

If I ever consider one again I'd buy a stock one, if I couldn't find a stock one I wouldn't waste my money. I learned the hard the way.

You will find the right car. I wanted one since 2003 when I seen a sonic blue cobra fly in front of my old Fox Body at a stop light. It was on slicks. I still remember my first encounter like it was yesterday. I finally got my Cobra in 2015 and it has been a pit of paychecks. I still love her though.

This is why I just found a clean GT body for dirt cheap and swapping it. I know it'll never be a real cobra nor should it be treated as such, but damn. The prices + history + likelihood of a lemon is not worth it.
