I installed a T56 into my 2003 GT at the end of last November. At that time I also installed a reverse lockout module. I haven't done anything with the car until today to finish up the job.

The last thing I needed to do was to install the switched 12V that I picked off of the cigarette lighter. Installed the MGW shifter and then fired up the car (still on the lift). I see that the ABS light is on as well as the "Trac Off" light is on.

It has been so long since I installed the controller to the harnesses.

I don't think that there is anything in this circuit that would trigger the ABS or traction control. Did I eff up in my wiring install or is there something else going on? Worked fine before I did the T56 install.

Greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Tomorrow I will check:
Battery Junction Fuse Box (underhood)
#3, #4, #8, #17

Central Junction Fuse Box (in car)
#5, #28, #29, #35, #37

Anything else?

Checked all the fuses that I noted. All checked out good.

I picked up an OBD scanner that also tests ABS. Unfortunately, I receive a message that it is “unable to establish communication”.

I did a little searching on the web and it seems that this is typical of a bad ABS control module.

I’ll test my ABS sensors before I pull the control module.

Still puzzled as to how this would go bad just sitting for a few months.

I doubt that the reverse lockout module is it. I guess I could have screwed that up. But it is pretty straight forward wiring. I did wire in some plugs so I can simply just break those connections and see if there is any difference.

Tested the ABS sensors and all are good. Also, disconnected the control module and re-tested the ABS control module and still get the “unable to establish communication”. Based on this, I went ahead and purchased a re-manufactured ABS control module from Module Repair Pro on Ebay.

Prepping for the new part, I started pulling my old unit out. A bit of a hassle with the extra plumbing for the supercharger in the way but not too bad. The bracket nut that is closest to the radiator was an extra special pain.

New part should be here by Friday or Saturday.

I have the same lights on ABS/Trac off.

So if my ABS module cannot connect, it’s likely a bad module?

Yes. If you have a fault message similar to mine from Innova, it is highly likely that it is the ABS control module.

I just got my reman part from Module Repair Pro. Ordered on Wednesday and got it today via USPS (he s in SoCal and I’m in NorCal).

Install is a bit of a pain as I have a upgraded rad as well as plumbing for supercharger in the way.

Anyway, it’s in and my ABS light and trac light are off. Also scanned and all is clear.

I am still puzzled as to why mine died and it hasn’t even been operational.

Good luck with yours.

it seems age is the killer on these for whatever reason, seems as common on low mileage cars as high mileage ones. A post I saw on FB said its just an internal ground that has to be re-soldered but take that for whatever it's worth considering the source.

isnt the cigarette lighter always on and not switched 12v?
Crap. Is it? Honestly, I have never, ever, used it. When I was searching the web I could swear I read that others installed using the 12v "switched" from the cigarette lighter. If you are correct, I'll have to pick another close by switched 12v. Perhaps the Stereo? I don't have a diagram handy. I believe that there are two 12v supplies to the stereo, one constant and one switched. Can anyone tell me the color code for the one that is switched?

You can verify the switched power easy enough - just get a test light and see what what happens with that power wire. I believe all of these cars have the harness for the convertible top switch inside the console, I believe one of those wires is switched. I wanna say I tapped into that for my reverse lock out (mounted under the carpet under the pass seat)

Found the circuit diagram for 2003 GT from my workshop manual. Switched power at the Stereo is BLK/PNK. I can't find the circuit that contains the cigarette lighter yet.

I'll get my meter out and see what is what at the cig lighter. I'll look at the diagram for the convertible as well.

Cool. Thanks for the tip. It's still all opened up so I can get to it easily right now.

So is the plug for the switch just sitting in there? From the wiring diagram, the 12v switched wire to look for should be WHT/VIO and the fuse location for this is #20 in the central junction box.

Here is the wire I tapped. I confirmed that the WHT/VIO is switched with my DMM. All is good.

Oh I thought you were referring to the cigarette lighter in the shifter bezel itself. I'm pretty sure that's always on. At least in my 03 cobra and 04 GT it is.
