NT555RII D.O.T.-Compliant Competition Drag Radial Tire

Tech Review—Nitto Tire NT555RII Drag Radial | NMRA

I feel like this new drag radial hasn’t been discussed.
I know I missed it completely.
Nitto is touting better performance than the 555R and the NT05R while giving better wet performance.
Plus they match the 555 G2 front tires.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Nitto for street traction and truly have daily driven (except winter obviously) on several Cobras and most recently a Hellcat Charger. I mean true DD, so if I can have the same or better traction than the NT05R and better wet use than the 555R, and match good front performance tires, these could be great.
Plus the worlds first 22” drag radial for you truck/SUV guys :)

I’m glad I only bought rims last month. Was undecided about tires at the time. Now I may have my decision.

I was thinking of upgrading to 305/35R20 M/T SS tires, but maybe these are better option. I just want something better than my NT05Rs.

Sir - How much additional lateral compliance did you see vs an all season summer tire (or whatever the OE tire was) ?

My DD (CTSV) has the Pilot SSs on it, which are generally a great tire - but I get my ass handed to me from a dig if I am not careful.

Always wondered how much I needed to give up if I went with a drag radial in the back...was thinking of going E85 soon to try to hang with those hell kitty roll races.

Cheers...

This. I am thinking of getting some re71r's to try to get a little of both. Was concerned the pilot ss would hook at all with 500+ whp.

Honestly, unless you’re doing hardcore turns, I’ve been happy with the NT05R and 555Rs in handling situations when on appropriately wide wheels.
305s on 9.5s didn’t feel as good, but on 10.5” wheels on 90% of turns I don’t think you’re giving up much.
Personally, unless I’m going on a road course, I’d rather have the traction of a DR.

I edited my above post for autocorrect errors and to clarify the impact of wheel width. These aren’t big bulging sidewall 15” tires.

Which brings me to this point.
The idea that you’ll get both is a fallacy.
For high powered street traction, nothing short off drag radials or Toyo R888R really works well.

I like where their head's at, but I do have a concern after looking over the size options:
Many of us are lowered and on at least 18's. I understand the benefits of added sidewall for launching. However, I'm wondering how that 315/40/18 would tuck under my rear fenders that aren't rolled (and I'd prefer not to roll them). I know Nittos traditionally run a little narrow so maybe I'm putting the cart before the horse. Either way, I won't be the guinea pig. lol

Thanks. Just wondering what the handling drop from a Dr to a 888r type tire is? I assume an occasional autocross on this tire would not be good?

If they don't make a 305 35 18 that will be a let down. Can't seem to find a size list anywhere for these new ones.

The 888R from Toyo is your triple treat type tire, as it’s a road course/autocross tire that hooks well enough on street and strip.
For guys that only doing spirited street drives, maybe an occasional strip run, then go street friendly DR like Nitto.
For hardcore strip you have MT and Hoosier but they’re compromised on the street.
Tires are the MOST important piece to your performance, so be honest and choose wisely.

Here I was debating between a M/T SS and R888R for my next set of tires, this may give another option. As long as it should hook 2nd from a 40 I’d be happy, my 888’s ain’t up for it anymore.
