Engine Cooling Temp Gauge Sending Unit

I just installed a Speed Hut temp gauge and put the sending unit in the right side block drain. The car has a 170 degree thermostat and the factory gauge reads in the normal range but the Speed Hut gauge reads 225 degrees. I believe the sending unit location is the issue. The car is not overheating for sure. I did the proper fill and have been driving the car for many miles.
Has anyone had this issue? I believe I should put the Speed Hut sending unit were the factory one is.

I put my sending unit in the coolant crossover. At one time, someone on this site sold the adapter.

Might be worth putting the dash into diagnostic mode and see what it says. You can't go by the dash gauge. It's really just a dummy light.

Thanks for all the good input you guys never disappoint. I checked the coolant temp with a infrared handheld thermometer and at the crossover it looked like 180 degrees. I have a feeling that way back and deep in the block the coolant is hotter. I like the idea of installing the sender in the crossover plug.

Did you change the fan settings to match the thermostat?

Also, it seems most problems with Senders have to do with lacking a good ground, esp if reading high. I might run a good ground to the sender to see how the temp looks then.

Also, I think your location is good as it will show worse case temperatures. I mounted mine on the driver side, but haven't filled her up with coolant yet as I am replacing the FP etc.

I used the fuse holder/box gnd under the dash; so I will see how that goes. It did read 80 degrees; which was ambient temperature.

I did buy the bullet pro cap though as it is a nice piece with two orings and the sensor mount.

I'm going to move the sender to the crossover pipe on Monday, I will report back with the results.

Yes, I installed it in the crossover pipe and have now driven it several times. Driving in 90 degree weather with A/c on 185-195 degrees, so the verdict is the reading is 25-30 cooler then when the sender is mounted in the block drain (lower left side of engine block). I hope that helps anyone doing a gauge install, and thanks for all the replies. There is always good help on this site.
