Yeah the Ultima is something that requires a certain type of person. It's unrefined pure race car for the street. Loud, hot, uncomfortable, hard to get in and out of... but almost unlike anything else out there. Definitely a LeMans car for the street.
Oh, this is right down his lane as he has multiple racecars and is a fast driver on the roadcourse. I think he went with the NSX because wanted something to cruise in, take his girl out, etc.

I look forward to seeing this when it done. I also smell a build thread coming on...

Any updates? Looming forward to seeing this completed.

You and me both! The lead time when I ordered my kit was 26 weeks. So I expect (hope) it will ship last week of May or first week of June. Build time is typically a minimum of 300-350 hours so I expect it will take me every bit of that.

In the meantime, I ordered a G97/50 transaxle which came out of a low mile, totaled Porsche 997.1 turbo (front corner damage).

I took the stock, open diff out of it and replaced it with a Wavetrac:

Then came the engine. I ordered a new LT5 crate motor, GM engine control system (comes with harness, ECM, and lots of other odds & ends), and full accessory kit.

These motors on an engine dyno put out around 780hp with just aftermarket headers, but since that isn't enough, I ordered:
Stage 3 cam
LT5 PAC .660 lift dual spring kit
PRC titanium retainers
Viton seals for stock rocker arms
Rocker Trunion Kit
C5R Timing Chain
Cam phase limiter
DOD plugs
Chromoly pushrods
ARP dry sump crankshaft bolt
ARP LT Head Studs
ARP HPFP fuel pump bolts
Johnson 2126LSR race lifters

For the heads I am sending them for:
5 axis CNC port
Competition Valve job & Cylinder Head Deburr
Hand Blend Valve Job & Bowl Blending

Supercharger was sent for porting and is back, smiling and happy to be home:

I'll make a proper build thread and will have a video of the engine engine tear down/rebuild. When the whole kit comes, I'm going to do a full build vlog on YouTube. Another channel (DriveDriverDriven) did one and it was very helpful so I'd like to do the same. After it's fully built, I'm going to have to have it tuned, etc. then I'd like to link up with some of the Florida YouTube guys (Dragtimes) and see what it will do vs a 720s and any other super/hyper cars down here.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it ran like 10.10@150 lol. I’d imagine it would be pretty hard to beat from any type of roll unless it’s got like ACR type of crazy downforce. Hell Gt40’s with like 500hp are monsters so that would be fun to watch.

When looking to mod my motor, I modeled it after the build list for the AMP ZR5 Corvette package, which runs mid 8s at 160mph. Note that the Ultima will weigh roughly 1,500lbs less than the Corvette, though the Corvette has a drag setup and an auto trans.

As far as the aero bits, I specced mine with this wing and carbon fiber endplates:

This splitter:

Along with these carbon fiber dive planes:

Hopefully that will provide some serious downforce.

Just remember to keep some 3in1 oil around. This is how mine would sound if I built one.

lol I hope mine doesn't sound quite that bad on the inside. That clutch petal needs some oil/grease asap. Mine will be straight piped (initially unless/until I hate it) so maybe I won't be able to hear anything anyways.

Hopefully mine will be more along these lines in terms of sound:

Please take alot of pics along the way. I don't know if I have ever anticipated someone else's build more than this! And there are alot of good builds going on here on SVTP right now.

What will you do for insurance? What company would cover this kind of vehicle? Do you anticipate any problems getting this licensed?

I will probably use Grundy for insurance, same as I used for my Viper. They do agreed value and from my understanding, it is not more expensive than a regular car due to the owners typically being the ones to fix the cars. They don't have to pay a shop rate and can ideally just pay for parts. Obviously a full loss would be a full loss.

I don't anticipate issues getting it registered mostly because I live in Florida and there are TONS of Factory Five cars that go to the local Cars & Coffee. From my research, it is a simple DMV inspection of the car and a notation of where the powertrain came from- if new, show an invoice and indicate new, if used (in the case of my transmission), then provide a VIN and receipt/invoice.

What you don't want to do is buy one of these in California. Not only do you have to pay a sales tax when you register the vehicle, you have to tally the amount of hours it took to build the car, then pay a shop rate to the government. So 300 hours x $100 = $30,000 you have to pay to the DMV.
