Have seen several of these listed for sale, mileage & prices all over the place.
I'd like to become more knowledgeable, & this forum looks like the place to start.
The total produced was 300, all the same or could you add / delete stuff on an order ?
Understand out of the 300, 5 were exports to Canada, does that make them more rare, valuable / collectible ?
I have seen a car in person with no numbers on it, pictures with numbers on them. The numbers don't all seem to be the same. What's up with the numbers ?
18 x 9.5 wheels are cast or forged ?
What is the paint code for the Performance Red Clearcoat ?
What are the gear ratios on the T-56 trans ?
I'm sure there will be more questions, thanks in advance for your help..

Off the top of my head, I have some answers for your quest Don:

300 2000 Cobra Rs were made. They were all made the same. Yes, 5 were slated to be sold in Canada, but they didn’t get the standard kph speedo or daytime running lights that are required in Canada and therefore were initially deemed not street legal up there. These 5 cars have a decal in the driver’s side door jam stating it is a competition vehicle for closed course use only. The window sticker is also 1/2 English / 1/2 French for those 5 cars.

As for the “numbers” on the car, I am assuming you are referring to the race bullet decals. Ford had them on their press release car. They were not on the 300 production vehicles. Some (myself included) have put these decals back on the car. Ford had “00” on the press car, but others have put whatever number they wanted... some also saw track time, so they put their actual race # on their car. The press release car also had black vinyl graphics along the rockers listing all of the major parts suppliers for the car. Some have added these vinyl decals, I have not (yet).

Yes, the wheels were 18” and if I recall correctly, they were 9.5” wide and forged.

Hope that helps you get more educated on these fine automobiles!

So any 00R I see with #'s on it is an owner mod, interesting.
Reviewed the FAQ's.
Exports to Canada were considered " competition ", not for street use, they got forged wheels instead of cast ones ??
Export cars are more rare, or just heaped in with the other 295 ??

After owning a 93 Cobra R then the 95 Cobra R I was all set to lock down the 2000R until the 03/04 Cobras appeared. Being that I was never a dedicated track guy I went with the Cobras and owned a 2003 and 2004 Cobra.

Now my friend Ken who is a member here NJ2000R has owned one since new and was tracking the car on a regular basis. I don't believe he does it much anymore. If I remember correctly the number on his car for the track was 20 but not sure. He does not come on here much anymore. No doubt the 2000R is one of the all time great Mustangs and I enjoyed being in and around his 2000R. Wish that I had endless amounts of cash and storage space because I would have some collection.

I believe the Canadian cars got the same wheels as US cars, no different.

04mysticCobra, I’ve met Ken a few times over the years at various track events, even bought some parts off him way back. Tell him he should stop by here more often, we miss him lol

Thanks Dave, I talked with Ken last month thru messages here and we were all set to have a get together before this Covid19 broke out. It will happen in time. Ken is a great guy and gearhead. I will be sending him another message soon and let him know you were asking.

Like I said above Don, all 300 cars were built the same. The only difference the 5 “Canadian cars” had was this decal in the driver’s side door jam:

Add my name to the list as well. I haven't heard from Ken in forever. Tell him not to be a stranger on the forum

I never felt that my 2000 Cobra R was "too much of a race car feel" and not a Very Nice street car, yes, the A/C delete was unfriendly in Florida, but other than that, I felt it was a Great street car, same with my 95R......now my 93R...........it was a rough ride on the street when a bump or RXR crossing was encountered.

During my time of ownership, Jeff Ford (Mustang Monthly) got a "then new" 2003 Cobra from Ford (Blue Mich./Manuf. license plate) for magazine tests and a feature, we drove around in that car quite a bit, it was a little more cushy feeling than the 2000 Cobra R, but my 2000 Cobra R was a Great feel also when getting out of the 2003 and hopping into my 2000.

I would say one thing to look for in a 2000 Cobra R is hood damage on the front area, I have seen/read multiple cases where the hood did not quite latch on the main latch and the owner would press down on the front lip area and crack the paint and fiberglass. This was especially an issue if the hood was cold, like real cold and did not want to grab the main latch and completely close.

the 2000R is a great street car. you would think it would ride like a truck based on the specs but it is surprisingly comfortable to drive on the street. the seats are fantastic and its the right amount of stiffness without getting out and feeling like you need to go to the chiropractor.

I don't know if it was mentioned previously, but if you are in the hunt for a 2000 Cobra R or even a 1995 Cobra R, you will want to know when the last Fuel Safe fuel cell bladder replacement was performed. If I remember correctly the Fuel Safe bladders last 6-8 years and have a life expectancy of 5 years?........and when I had to replace the bladder on my 95R it was......like $1600 and I along with a member on this forum did the labor at his house here in Florida, that was 13 or more years ago, I am sure the bladder replacement is more that $1600 now, and plan on doing it over and over during ownership if you keep the Fuel Safe fuel tank "as it came from Ford".
