For those that bought complete AR-15s, what did you buy?

I am looking at the SW M&P Sport II, Ruger 5.56, DPMS, SA Saint, and Aero AC-15.

I have to say that I am really leaning towards the OR SW MP as it has no front sight, under $600, and the only drawback seems to be the BCG.

What did you guys get?
Pros?
Cons?
Recommendations?

Last fall I bought the M&P15 Sport II on it's reputation. Paid $480 from Kentucky Gun. It's a hoot to shoot. I need a Sig Sauer red dot.

Good overall review:

Here’s the “meltdown” video. The fire starts at 6:00 - lol:

Only drawback is I can't shoot it out my back door 'cuz I live in the city - lol.

I have the sport II and it’s nice for the money. I just put 400 rounds through it this weekend without malfunctions, I did get a double feed twice but I think it was the shitty mag I had loaded.

I would look into getting an AR pistol. Same thing as a regular AR except you can get them in shorter barrels, it will need a different stock as well.

my buddy bought a complete upper and lower For and AR pistol over the weekend and it was way cool. It made my sport II look like a musket, I’m looking in to getting a 10” upper and changing mine over to an AR pistol.

I went the Palmetto State Armory route with separate complete upper and lower, its basically a full rifle sent in 2 different boxes. Add a magazine and you're done. You can get them starting around $380 IIRC. Obviously you can mix and match higher end uppers and lowers with different features and increase the price from there. They make good rifles for a fair price but you obviously can't go wrong with any of your other selections.

I have the Ruger. No complaints.

I was going to get the M&P but this happened to be on sale and cheaper. It's never jammed. Easts whatever rounds I've put in it. Shoots dead on at 75 yards-100 yards. What more could I ask for?

I put a cheap Bushnell Red Dot on it and it's done what I needed. Not bad for a $650 setup. I would go broke if I shot it as much as I'd like to.

I got a Saint. It has good reviews and looks good out of the box. If you have the desire and ability to build one you can get a better gun for the same money, but I didn't have either of those things.

Spikes Tactical with a 5.45X39 9 in 1 twist heavy barrel. Have yet to shoot it and it has been over 4 years since I got it.

Main reason I went this route almost everyone thinks AR = 5.56 or 223 well go ahead and try that with mine and see what happens there slick as if you try and use my stuff against me you best know exactly what you are doing. If you try to put a 223 round in a 5.45 chamber it'll lock up and jam so unless you have a cleaning rod handy the rifle is useless. Oh and going and using a 22 cleaning rod well also not work as it's bigger than the bore and well not go down, and so you need a sub caliber .17 for a .17 Rem rifle.

Ruger and SW make excellent firearms, and their ARs are no exception. They stand behind their product.

Aero Precision is another excellent company. DPMS isn't bad, but ever since they got bought out by Remington, quality hasnt been the same.

I have also heard excellent things about Brownells rifles and Palmetto State Armory. Only caveat about Palmetto is it takes them FOOORRREEEVVVEEERRRRR to process orders.... but it's good and cheap so..

I just picked up the CMMG 22lr conversion for mine for this exact reason. Takes less than 30 seconds to swap and will allow me to go to the range and shoot a couple boxes up 223 followed up by several hundred 22lr for cheap, all without having to purchase an second dedicated AR.

My upper took 3 days from order to sitting on my doorstep, my lower took roughly 10 days to show up at my FFL dealer.

They must have improved their processing department then. Cheap but takes forever has been the long running joke about Palmetto for years

I have a Savage MSR Recon. I really like the features it came with. It's chambered in .223 Wylde, has a unique forged lower, free-float hand guard. I added a sling, a holographic sight and a LaRue Tactical trigger. It's awesome. I was between the Springfield Armory and Savage and went with Savage.

Savage Arms - MSR-15 RECON

Whatever you get, I strongly suggest LaRue Tactical's MBT (meticulously built trigger). You can shop around and read reviews. Trigger upgrades can be crazy expensive, but the LaRue was $89 and I can't say enough about how awesome it is.

I have an "original" MP Sport [ no forward assist, no dust cover] since I'm not going to get in any firefights in the 'Glades I'm not worried about the dust cover and as far as the forward assist goes well that's what your forefinger is for.
The rifle shoots great and even though I've had it a number of years I've only put 500 through it with no issues.
