Hell if I was a cop, no more traffic stops. Take all reports over the phone. Then go chill with the firefighters at the fire station.

No point in doing any actual proactive policing in today's environment.

in this day and age, I'd skate like a m'fer and wait for my pension...Because doing your job now means getting thrown under the bus, then in jail etc....

Every Atlanta Police Department officer to receive $500 bonus | FOX 5 Atlanta

"In an effort to stem attrition and boost morale, we issued a $500 bonus to each Atlanta Police Department officer today," the Atlanta Police Foundation released in a statement.

In addition to the $500 bonus, APF said it will be providing meals to officers working 12-hour shifts. It will also be repairing more than 20 patrol cars destroyed in the recent riots as well as police bicycles and UTV units.

They still don't get it. That's not going to do anything for morale. They need to figure out how to restore the trust that's been broken in order to restore morale.

Yes, teaming them is the key, but sending unarmed social workers alone on mental health calls seems like a bad idea, unless I missed something in that New Mexico story.....

I was watching a comedian joke about how American cops do way too much. Back home, they would tell you to deal with it yourself.

So 19 year old kid, lives at home, mad because mom cut off his cell phone bill because he didn't mow the lawn, mom wants the police .... that's different that a woman calling 911 and saying her abusive ex BF is at her front door, drunk, trying to kick it in. The first case doesn't exactly need police.

The comedian also joked about homeless people. So toothless joe is in walmart's parking lot again, rambling on about how ninjas are after him. That seems more like someone who needs mental help, could use info on where to get it, etc vs a cop pushing him off the property and saying don't come back.

Wait, social worker and paramedic going to scenes with officers? That’s even more dangerous. First of all I wouldn’t go to any scene police responds to without firearm, vest and proper training to handle business. And second of all, as an officer, baby sitting two unarmed individuals would only make things more dangerous for me. I don’t agree with that. Officers go assess situations and then call in social workers and parenedics when deemed safe. This is already being done countrywide

So if they pair social workers and EMS with the officer, who will be in charge of the situation? Will the officer have to wait to act until they arrive to be a trio against crazy people? Will the officer be responsible for their lives as well as his or hers? Just like most government programs they have good intentions but bad execution.
Also on the topic of 500 bucks for the cops, what a slap in the face. They don’t need that, they need the support from the lawmakers, D.A. and the citizens. I think they should have an open and honest discussion with the officers with no worries of recourse on what they say. Ask them what they need to better serve the public.

Any one hear this?

The ATL DA is under criminal investigation by the Georgia Bureau of investigation for allegedly taking 140 thousand dollars to supplement his salary through his nonprofit.

Yes, heard this at work last night also. Plus it’s an election year for him.

That's exactly what it is

The only reason the DA is charging Felony Murder is to appease the city protestors and gain political points.

Had he not charged anything the city would be burning en masse.

Problem is just as you said...the case is incomplete. Based on the video and police policy they shouldnt even be able to get a negligent manslaughter charge to stick
That right there shows the short sightedness of their decision.

Don't charge him and you deal with two weeks of riots. Now that you have charged him, you'll deal with months, if not years, of labor shortages in the Police force. This, resulting in historic levels of crime due to no enforcement of laws. They dug their grave.
