Brake Line / master cylinder Question

I’m replacing my front brake lines with SS lines tonight and wanted to know if I take a line off will it drain my master cylinder? I know I’ll have to bleed the brakes but is it possible to not let it run dry, or will it hold enough fluid with a line disconnected to change it and refill as I bleed?

You’ll most likely introduce air into the system and will have to bleed the MC along with the lines. There’s no real way around it. How old is your fluid? Probably wouldn’t hurt to give it a good flush anyway.

Plan on a full bleed. I didn't think I left mine open that long, but it was enough to have to start bleeding at the master cylinder. But it worked out as I ended up with new fluid throughout.

I planned on bleeding all of the old fluid out from each caliper Bleed valve with a hand pump and refilling from the master cylinder as I go but I was trying not to run the master dry so I wouldn’t have to bleed it? I can’t find any videos or walkthroughs of how to accomplish this or how to bleed the master without taking it out of the car

Our master has bleeder valves

Very simple.

During change you can plug line when you pull off the old.

Caution.

Brake fluid is a great paint remover.

Clean areas after work.

Okay thanks for the tips. When I get to the end and bleed the master cylinder which bleeder valve should I do first or does it not matter?

Doesn’t matter

If using a hand vac to pull fluid to caliper you may not need to bleed master if you keep tank with some fluid between refill.

If used right these things are awesome

Ya I bought the mityvac hand pump. I just received the stop tech ss brake lines and they came with plugs to throw in the stock lines while I work so they don’t drip out all of the fluid. I’m a lot more confident now. Doing ATS brembos, New rotors, Ss lines.

I think I got it done but my hand vac started having issues towards the end. Test drive tomorrow.

Biggest problem I’ve found with vacuum bleeders is that you can draw air at the bleeder threads, unless you have some Teflon sealant on them. They do work great though if properly sealed. Lately, when doing brakes, I’ve been buying Speedbleeders to replace the bleeder screws, then it’s super easy to bleed with no worries of air infiltration.
