Long story short, I thought I was running an 87 octane tune on my 2011 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L and learned it was a 93 octane tune (canned Diablosport).

Over the past two months, there have been a handful of WOT runs and the truck has towed 5-6k lbs a few times.

Should I be concerned that I hurt the engine?

Go fill it up with a few gallons of 100 and start using 93, you should be ok, but if anal do a leak down and compression test

if it seems to be running fine then maybe you got a little lucky. You can always pull a couple plugs and see if they look chewed up and go from there

The plugs they use these days aren't half bad and are pretty cold. If this were winter and doing WOT passes I'd be scared but he should be ok. I remember 14 years when I sold my L for Cobra and the kid who bought my truck wondered why he threw 3 pistons, come to find out he took the tune off, sold it while still running a 6lb lower and was doing WOT pulls in 0* weather LOL

I mean, it's a canned tune they probably don't run the ragged edge of timing on those, just in case.

If the truck runs fine and wasn't detonating, it should be fine.

Dude it's a N/A 5.3 with a canned tune not a LT4 w/2650. You'll be fine.

Did you hear any detonation during that period?

I didn't, but my seat time was very limited and I honestly wasn't listening for it. Also, it's my wife's truck and she's behind the wheel 99% of the time. She has a lot of redeeming qualities, but she's no gear head.

I've been driving this way for two months so I don't think the 100 will help anything at this point other than the current tank of fuel.

It's running a little rough at idle, and the rpms drop to 600 when stopped and in gear. So I dunno. I'd rather be lucky than good.

Thanks man. Saying my prayers.

See above

Agreed, shouldn't it pull timing regardless by the ECU?

This is what I'd like to know also. I don't know if the canned tune overrides any of the ECU's safety parameters.

Computer will compensate. Canned tunes aren't that aggressive.

It's GOOD that your wife drives the truck most of the time. LOL. Like @DSG2003Mach1 said, thankfully your motor is NA. How did you wife take the news, assuming your told her. I've heard stories of people accidentally filling their tank (modified, blown engines) with 87 octane fuel with a 93 octane tune. Not good, but it happens sometimes.
