The thing is a person should be held responsible if they screw up even if their intentions were true and genuine.
If a person screw up they can be held accountable. Qualified immunity is when they didnt screw but shit head people are mad anyway. You know like at the Wendies in Atlanta!

"QI" essentially means "I am not responsible no matter how incompetent I am."

The more I think about QI the less it makes sense to me.

Essentially the argument is that it is necessary because without it there would be no way that incompetent morons would become cops. And apparently we need incompetent morons or else no one would join the force.

But there are many many occupations in which a ****up by a single person has tremendous ramifications. Think surgeons, airplane pilots, pension managers, etc. And yet we deal with this through liability insurance.

Why are cops an exception? My guess is that it is the strength of police unions (**** public employee unions while we are at it).

Would you get an a plane if pilots had qualified immunity?

You make some good points.

Which reminds me, i need to sue the living shit out of my kid's school district for failing to teach them anything useful whatsoever about America, the Founding, or anything positive at all about our country.

Wish me luck.

If you haven't noticed, there are MANY Republicans in Name Only these days.

You can blame Democrats and Liberals until the cows come home, but both parties need a good cleansing.

Smartest thing you've said.... well.. ever.

BTW, i removed that stupid period you put at the bottom of every post of yours. You never say anything worth ensuring "everyone must see my whole post!" so why bother?

I am not sure that you would be able to tell if cops are actually not doing their jobs. Google clearance rates for various crimes. They are abysmal. Only 10% of property crimes are solved. Less than 50% of violent crimes are solved.

Another good point. Im sure there is a sizable number of cops that are miserable failures who are always protected by shit bag unions.

Kind of like CA (and probably MN) teachers............

I dislike my Governor. He's Pelosi lite. Whoever said the Cali liberals moved in and ruined the state is correct. Hopefully my state is in for a correction in November.

Doubtful, but here's to hoping for change!

What is Qualified Immunity and why does it fail at life?

"Qualified Immunity was the reason for dismissal in only 3.2% of the 1,183 lawsuits in the study.... Therefore, the existence of Qualified Immunity is not serving the alleged policy goal of shielding government officials from the burden of participating in the litigation process. Unless, of course, one considers 3.2% to be a substantial shield from litigation. To the contrary, it arguably has increased the negative public perception of a lack of equal justice in the justice system as a whole."

i.e. the sky is not falling in CO.

Who wants to move to colorado and setup a law firm/liability insurance agency for LEOs? We will get crazy high ROIs and i am sure like the medical field it will just be covered by the employer anyway(taxes). Follow the money I am willing to bet someone in the know has already done this or those companies who support medical malpractice are about to make even more money on Leo malpractice, and those companies support specific candidates politically.

“Sorry that you are getting assaulted/raped/murdered/robbed, I would like to help you but I could incur liability so I’m going to eat this donut and enjoy the show.”

Feel good politics is going to allow society to see just how eveil their fellow man can be when no one protects them.
